Nah I doubt their will be any public beta invites until late fall at the earliest, they said phase 1 might start in September, but that would still be handpicked invites most likely.
It is being Demoed right now for the MS execs, its the "Is there really a game there Demo" so dont hold your breath for a beta invite for some time.

Lets just say I know these things because I have friends who are working on it, in fact they have been working on it all night.
Basically the demo is about the same stage that MS canned TFO and mythica, its the stage where they say ok you have a product that will make us money or Sorry charlie your project is dead.
From what I understand Vanguard did alright and they are good to go.

I would say it's a pretty good bet to suceed a few months ago, the MS product lead quit to work for Sigil 
Brad's name helps alot with this I think... especially for those of us who played EQ from day one and saw the changes first hand after he left that made the game go downhill
I doubt this game will hit.
The one thing Brad never could figure out was, that a game has to be fun to play, even when you aren't applying yourself to some predefined goal.
This game sounds like it's going to be all leveling, raiding, tradeskills, and graphical flair.....if so, it's already failed.
Shit, look at UO, that mofo was fun because it didnt matter what you did, you could still have fun doing nothing.

It's also why Diablo 2 was so successful, and still is.

Shrug I think the fact they made eq1 somewhat hard and time consuming made ppl want to play it more. The challenge kept ppl coming back to try and beat it and upgrade their chars. Hell i remember the devs used to ignore so much shit when eq went live for like the first year but ppl kept on playing and taking the abuse. Maybe it was because there was nothing else to play but it seemed to me ppl loved the tough love, hell i know i like things to be hard, it just makes beating it all that more fullfilling.

those who played eq when it first came out were hardcore into that shit. Todays MMO target audiance is a good deal more slack, and these days we always have somewhere else to go. Leavin Eq1 ment back to the text MUD where the CS major freaks can still be found.
