i dont know a single person who honestly plays eq for gameplay.
not to knock it, but there is better
it's all social and the fact that it's hard to walk away from 5 years of your life, regardless of what aspect it is.

I think early eq was a really fun game. I stoped playing when they went to the moon, that was enough for me. But I will check out vangaurd.

I played EQ for the game play. Seriously, it was tough to 3-box a cleric necro and beastlord without scripts.

Coincidently neither of these things have anything to do with the skills of the developement team! |
To construct a thought / concept like that requires some skill. Granted the programming was shit, but the concepts were incredible. The creativity is a skill in itself.

All they did was take MUDs, make them 3D, and increase the number of players.

Are you talking about the development team? I thought were talking about the developers of the actual game (Butler , McQuaid). They established the grounds for the base of the game.

Brad McQuaid and Butler didn't come up with the concept of multiplayer role playing games, sorry to break it to you.

Vangaurd looks pretty sweet...If anything I would buy it just to roam around and explore, and as soon as I got bored I would quit and move on to the next game.

No but they came up with the general concept of EQ and why it is so addicting.
Name one game before EQ's time (MMORPG) that had the basic structure EQ did.

Name one game before EQ's time (MMORPG) that had the basic structure EQ did. | Realm, UO, pretty much any MUD, hell even Diablo was about the same thing on a smaller scale.
EQ took D&D, changed around the combat and put it into 3D graphics.
