Here's what Brad had to say about it.
Just wanted to give you an update -- looks like today or tomorrow. I'll let you know as I know more.
A couple of notes to manage expectations:
First, the entire movie (other than the Sigil & Vanguard logo stuff) are from in-game. Our engine can render out individual frames as an option, which made it easy to put this movie together relatively quickly and then get back to work on the game. I also very much prefer movies that just show in-game visuals as anyone can spend the money to make some cool, pre-rendered FMV movie, whereas I'd rather spend the money now on building the company up and getting further along in development. The fact that we have a playable alpha with adventuring as sophisticated as most first and second gen games today, and crafting even beyond that isn't really depicted in the movie, although that's what I'm most proud of and what will truly matter in the end.
Second, the focus of the movie for this E3 was to show the epic scale of Vanguard and what a third gen seamless but still detailed world is shaping up to look like.
I do stress the following:
1. We're at alpha. This is our first movie. I think it's good, but it's just the beginning in terms of how good the world will end up looking. Our hope is to produce many more movies over the next year+ as the tech work we had to do to make this first one makes it easier to do future ones as well.
2. Some obvious tech isn't there, like shadows. We have released shadows in some screenshots and will continue to do so, and the next movie will have shadows, but when this movie was put together we were re-working them for the E3 demo and they didn't make it into the movie.
3. Again, the movie is mostly about high off the ground fly-bys, showing New Targonor, Leth Nurae, etc. We have a section with a dungeon shot, but don't expect epic battles. Combat is very far along, but we've been focussing on the actually mechanics, not the whiz-bang spell effects.
Anyway, enough disclaimer Hopefully you all will like it, and please feel free to comment negatively or positively -- any and all feedback is valuable to us. I just wanted you to know what to expect, and where our priority was... what we can do with a seamless world, being able to soar high above cities and villages, to have truly flying creatures, etc. are features we wanted to emphasize because those are areas Vanguard already is pretty above and beyond other games; likewise, in areas where we knew MMOGs games coming out sooner were more polished we didn't focus on.
thanks,
