Completing the application process is no guarantee that you will get into Beta. And if you are selected, don’t expect the process to be overnight. There will be a number of steps for you to complete and the process takes a little while. You might even be asked to participate in a phone interview. This is the same process our friends and family went through when they applied for the program.
Will everyone on the Forum eventually get into Beta?
That’s highly unlikely unless we do an open Beta at some point, but that is still being determined. We will continue to add as many people as we need throughout Beta and our first choice will always be to accept community members first.
How will you go about selecting participants?
Once you have submitted your application, your name will be added to a list of potential participants. Each week, we will add the needed number of people from that list. Sometimes, they will be chosen based on our specific needs for testing (for example, we might need more testers that play during a particular time of day) and sometimes, names will be chosen pretty much at random.
What about people that won Beta spots at Fanguard or as a contest prize? How is that any different than the rest of the people that are invited?
The difference is that the winners of these contests will be selected for participation right away. Assuming they meet all of the requirements of participating in Beta, they will be processed and into the program very soon. They will not have to wait and hope to get picked.

For those confused...
a) If you registered on the Official Vanguard Forums before October 14th, an e-mail will be sent to the current e-mail address of that account. I have no idea when they will pull/pulled e-mails from their database to mail to, so it's hard to say whether you'll get your e-mail or not if it is currently incorrect and you change it.
b) The e-mail being sent is an invitation to *apply* for Beta. Everyone will receive this e-mail in time, if you are registered.
c) If your e-mail address was incorrect when they collected e-mail addresses to send to, you will receive an e-mail invitation once all other registered members have been sent an e-mail for the first time.
d) If you registered after the e-mail announcement, you will receive your e-mail invitation after all other members who registered previous to the announcement.
e) Apparently, e-mails are being sent to users in order, based on their ID #. Users who registered to the forums first, will receive their e-mail invitations first, and those who registered later will receive their e-mail invitations later.
f) To view your ID #, hover your mouse pointer over the "Profile" button of any of your posts (or another user, to see their ID #), located at the bottom left of a post. The number at the end of the URL address at the bottom of the window is your ID #.
g) The last known person to get a Beta invitation today was ID # 687. Assuming they may have sent 1000 in one day, you can guess how many business days it may take before your e-mail arrives. (Ex: If your ID # is 25,000, I wouldn't suggest refresh spamming your e-mail for about a month.)
h) It's highly unlikely that e-mail invitations would be sent out on a Saturday or Sunday, and so e-mail camping over the weekend may be pointless.
i) It's 1:00AM PST at the time I am writing this, and so it's doubtful anymore invitations will be sent until Monday.
j) E-Mail invitations seem to have been sent at around 2:00-3:00PM PST on Friday; something to keep in mind on Monday.
k) As far as I know, no one past ID # 1000 has received an e-mail invitation yet (my ID # is 1194 and no e-mail as of yet). |

There may be some people from fansties in and I know a few who are, but by and large even the affiliate fansites are not into the beta at this point. We don't really have much more info than everyone else at this point.

Not true, it will be doubtful that fansites will be in phase 1. Sigil treats fansites as press.
