It seems that ever since Everquest came out the "community" expanded beyond the hardcore computer geeks and gamers. I wonder how split Realpoor is.

Are you either:

A) A long time gamer, self-proclaimed computer geek, into tech and all that

or

B) Pseudo-geek, have a little of it in you, but somehow got caught in EQ and then Realpoor - nothing much else though

myself for example - I always had a little geek in me, played AD&D as a young kid, liked fantasy movies and Asimov novels - but never owned a console or computer game past the original Nintendo, and only use computers to surf or word process - no other message boards, no IM program even anymore - so I voted B!

my guess is about 60% hardcore here

I could do this, if I thought about it long enough. Mensa says so!

Neither. I never play games on the comp, but I did play EQ. Now I'm playing WoW with a couple of RL friends. I lost interest in EQ as soon as my RL friends quit and other good friends from the game and TA quit.

Only games I play really are sports games like Tiger Woods and Fifa...oh yea, and Gran Turismo.

So I definately would not consider myself hardcore, a lot of the time I play WoW is during late night after I come home from whatever I was doing that night. Lol...I'm sure that's gonna change with my MWF 9am classes next semester tho.

Former hardcore, turned semi-nerd. I used to play Starcraft, then Quake(1,2,3), then Everquest 12 hours a day. And, when I wasn't playing, I was reading about them and absorbing as much information as possible.

Then, about two years ago I woke up, got a job and started to live my life. I'm still interested in games and computers to some extent, but I almost never play them anymore. If I do buy a game, I end up playing it for a week and then getting bored. I never did beat Doom 3, or even Halflife 2. In fact, I can't remember the last single player game I played all the way through.

People stay interested that long? To actually finish?

Before I got caught up in EQ, I hadn't played a computer game in years (and really none since), and the only video gaming consoles I've ever owned are my Dreamcast and Atari.

I like Star Trek, but I'm not much of a sci-fi/fantasy nut and I can't stand all the cheesy shit movies like T3, X-Men, Resident Evil, LXG, AvP, etc. Just the thought of someone getting excited over Elektra deeply saddens me.

I'm a chemist, which I guess is a geeky profession, and I like 80s rock, which is kinda dorky too. However, I'm not a computer/tech guy.

I probably don't belong here lol. In fact, I have no idea why I still click the RP link in my favorites folder. I think the shenanigans keep me around, like they did at CompUSA for all those years. Oh, and the gay porn. The gay porn definately keeps me coming back.

I was a closet geek most of my life...didn't admit it til I was in my thirties LOL......I suppose I am a pseudo-geek, tho...I know that none of my friends that I grew up with or even were friends with as an adult (until I hit my 30s) shared any of my "geeky" interests...so I more or less pushed those interests aside.

Then, I met some people in the early 90s online in the original Prodigy, who became some of my best RL friends, to this day, and finally stopped being a closet geek because they were all geeks, too Smile

I played flight sims on my 486 back in the day, warcraft 1, warcraft 2, warcraft 3, warcraft tft, starcraft, broodwar, coutless shooters. I played total annihilation and was ranked like 2 in the world for a while, you can say world because the only real way to play was on TEN. Everquest was my first mmo and i loved it got hooked from the start. I played lineage 2 beta and got the game and played and got bored, played wow beta and loved it, now im waiting to get Wow, but i still dont consider myself a hardcore gamer. I magor in aerospace and i swim 20+ hours a week

well, i never played EQ, because that game devours whatever soul a man has left and implodes it to become a black hole of spirit. EQ people slowly eat away at other people's souls too, until the entire wolrd is constantly aggro to everyone. Nature is gonna kick your asses, while i'm safe hidden away in a small hole until i die of starvation. or i come out and join for the f**k of it.

ACK!

It would be "teh pwn" if they'd animate the rest of the story. The little that they did is so great.

Played D&D when it was still new, at the age of 12. (and for the last 27 years.)

Played my first computer game Jovian on a TRS-80 when I was in High School.

Played Pac-Man, Defender, etc...(they had just come out at the time)...while in High School still.

Played on Apple C, IIE computers...Bard's Tale, Wizardry, etc...

Guess I'm considered hardcore.../shrugs
