Since you all got to hear me vent when I needed to blow off some steam, I figure i'd let you all know how my temporary custody hearing went.
Background...
We'd been doing my son with her 4 days, my son with me 3 days. We showed up originally to do temp custody and she asked for a trial and wanted sole custody out of nowhere.
She wrecked her truck with no insurance, got evicted from her apartment, lost her phone...etc so i've been keeping my son 7 days a week and driving him to visit her when she calls and asks to see him.
Today....
Quick and to the point, I showed up at the courthouse at 9am, and walked back out at 9:35 with primary physical custody of my son, and an order that visitation would be based on mutual agreeance.....meaning she has no set visitation that she is entitled to, and that if i don't agree to it, she doesn't see him.
Moral of this story....
In custody hearings, it's usually a good idea, at a minimum, to at least show up for court. ^^

she didn't even show up? WOW! Man, I wouldn't let my kid near someone who doesn't even have the decency to show up for something which would impact their child's life.

wow!   just wow!
glad things worked out so well and with such little hassel for you and your son khrath.
really hope she will sit and be reasonable about proper visitation now without disrupting your sons sleeping ect like she was doing before and that you two can work out a comfortable happy middle ground that all are content with.

Grats on things going well for you
I'm curious though, since from your descriptions I could picture a couple of vastly different scenarios, and I wonder which is right:
1) She could be lazy, irresponsible, self indulgent, chemically dependant, disorganized, uncaring toward your son and vindictive toward you.
or
2) She could be really struggling, with a s****y job at someplace like Walmart, no marketable skills, a falling apart car, no money, no time, and having to sacrifice things that other people take for granted like car and health insurance, a phone, transportation. And maybe she has a b*****d for a boss who figures that court dates are her problem not his, but if she's late for work again she's out on her ass. And so her world's turned upside down due to splitting up, she hasn't figured out how to make it on her own and she's floundering. And she grabbed for custody because she saw the extra child support as a life raft that might keep her afloat.
In the first case I'd have no sympathy for her, but if it's the second, I'd say you owe it to your son to try to help her, even if she's been almost unforgivably unfair because she might just be desparate. Life being what it is, I suppose it's somewhere in between the two cases.

Well, yes, but it can apply to all the others who aren't keeping up on this, as then you'd know that he's given her all the chances to be a good mommy.
