As much as I love the Texas Longhorns I don't entirely believe they can pull through this year. However, mishaps can happen and both teams still have another week to prove their strength.
Texas has a date with last year's upset, Kansas State. If Texas demolishes Kansas St. then I will at that point truely believe Texas has a chance to rout OU in a close, high-octane second half. However, the point on hand is Texas' Offense.
While Colt McCoy is a great Quarterback he hasn't been playing quite up to par against the first 3 opponents. The only true test they overcame was the TCU game, and even that game wasn't a true test. TCU is an overrated team this year, as they ARE strong with their defence.. just like Texas their Offense is lacking. This most recent game that Texas played in vs. Rice was a nice blowout and a for sure confidence booster, but how much credit do you give a Top 10 ranked team for blowing the crap out of a Bottom 5 ranked team?
NOW...
Oklahoma has blown away their first 4 opponents scoring AT LEAST 50 pts. per game! That seems almost unreal, considering Oklahoma has a young offensive line. Nevertheless, they do in fact have the highest and most powerful offense in the nation, for now. They played North Texas in their first game and won 79-10, no real test their as UNT just so happens to be a bottom 10 team (in my book). Now their 2nd game at Miami was a real test. Even though most people think that the Miami Hurricanes are a bad team.. just look what they did to Texas A&M, an upset they called it! How does a Top 25 team lose to a Non-ranked, so called "horrible" team... that just doesn't happen, but upset have been happening all year long. Ever since the App. St. vs Michigan game, the underdog teams have been routing hard Top 25 and even Top 10 teams. However, the point at hand right now is the fact that Oklahoma destroyed Miami in their 2nd game.. what does that say about Texas A&M and even more so what does that say about Miami!!! Clearly they are an excellent team, which in turn means that Oklahoma, while they MIGHT be overrated, they are in fact a Top 10 Team.
After all that my prediction for the Texas vs Oklahoma, Red River Rivalry is that Oklahoma will win.
Expect an intense high scoring half by both teams, possibly. If texas can't overtake Oklahoma in the first half I highly doubt they will overtake them in the 2nd.
Oklahoma- 42
Texas- 21
