Taken from the latest Shadowbane patch message:
...Since the server improvements schedualed to take place friday areexpected to take 8 hours, all shadowbane subscribers will be credited one extra day to their subscription...
I about shit myself when I read this, could anyone concivably see EQ or DAoC doing anything remotely like this? EQ would take servers down for a day and just tell us all to fuckoff basicly, and downtimes were usualy 5+ hours for a patch. Longest SB downtime has been 2 hours. So far I'm pretty damn impressed

EQ was also not nearly as unstable as Shadowbeta.

like hell it wasn't! I wasn't around for release but the servers turned to shit for atleast a week after Kunark was release, total shit! They were down for an entire day, then there was always one or more of them down at a time from one bugged crash or another, and every couple of hours there was another emergency patch to DL to try and get it working for people who had and didn't have Kunark installed. Velious didn't exactly have a smooth launch either. Wasn't around for SoL but PoP was alright.

The SoL release was absolutely horrible. Servers were down nearly every day. If you were lucky enough to find the servers up, there was a good chance you couldn't play because of hardware and/or software conflicts. I recall there being some issues with nvidia video cards and AMD processors. I think I spent about 3 weeks unable to play while trading emails with generally unresponsive technical support people.
The cool thing about an MMORPG actually crediting their customers with time when the service is unavailable is that it's a level of customer service that Sony doesn't understand. When my cable goes out for 3 weeks, the cable company doesn't say "You need to try a new TV." They credit me for the downtime. Sony basically says "You'll pay us the same amount each month regardless if what you are paying for is actually available 100% of the time or only 20% of the time."
Obviously, Sony's crappy service hasn't convinced me not to play EQ since I'm still playing. But, hearing about good customer service on other pay-to-play game is the kind of thing that'll make me check it out.

Point being that EQ ALWAYS had more new subscribers signing up then old ones quiting until well AFTER they dominated the whole market.
Shadowbane cannot even grab a decent share of the people that have beta tested the damn thing. I could care less if they called me on the f*****g telephone every night giving me a heads up every time the developers farted I will still not pay for that piece of shit game.

Excuse me for only reading the general and EQ forums of Realpoor before. Anyways there usedto be a DAoC and SB forum under the EQ one way back on the original Realpoor, I didn't see it on the list anymore so I just posted it in a nice obvious place so the mods could place it wherever it goes ;p
