I think other countries would know more about this then the media if the media even knows that much. It going public does nothing but that, tell the public, other countries prob already know and have known. Its been talked about for many years about this. The US will always be here, they're going to continue to try to influence the rest of the world.
Unless someone nukes the US, they're not going away. Even then with our early warning system we could most likely shoot down any nukes that come toward the US and then fire some back at who ever shot at us.
That'd be funny ^^

Today, the US announced that on July fourth of this year, America will Blow up the moon.
We have the technology, the time is now. Science can wait no longer, the children are our future. America can, should, must, and will blow up the moon.
And we'll be doing it during a full moon, so we make sure we get it all.
