*sigh* yeah another war thread, anywho...

My ex just called for a little chat, and as it's apparent we have absolutely nothing in common anymore (how does that happen?), we talked about the war. Now I'm not really sure who/what her sources are but she told me a few interesting things after giving me a big 'I told ya before April.'

First, we're having problems. She didn't elaborate on their nature, but just that the war you're seeing now is not the war we had planned. Again, 'there's problems.'

Secondly, the Iraqi forces we're up against now are chumps. Much to Iraq's dismay, they were expected to lie down pretty easily. These aren't the guys we're gunning for.

Third, it's expected that Saddam will use every last warhead he's got. This includes any/all biological and chemical weapons. He's going out in a blaze of glory and there will be alot more casualities than the public is probably ready to accept.

Lastly, the prediction right now is 3-4 months before our ground forces have full control of Iraq.

/shrug interesting stuff and by no means gospel, but hell she was training for this...

I got most of that from watching th news, Seems that iraqis started firing missiles early so they could start thier shock dealio, so 3rd ID is moving to capture bassra instead and I spose they will go to the original plan after the situation stabalizes.

The iraqis by habit throw thier conscripted ill equpped troops to the front line as a shock absorber to the republican guard, not that the republican guard is really as elite as they say, they are just elite for a iraqi soldier which doesnt mean much.

We all know just by human nature, if hes not wise enough to go into exile and wants to fight, he will use what he has against us, luckily his shit is not very accurate.

I think you are overestimating the amount of casualities on our side, I think just from our training are troops are vet quality out of the box for the most part, with our ability to use joint ops in our battles we outmatch them completly. Its like pitting a pro team against a high school team in football. I wouldnt bite my nails too much over this invasion.

Hey I said it wasn't gospel, but it does make sense. We're overly preoccupied with killing Hussein and his leadership right now... to the point we're holding back. This is obvious to everyone.

Maybe we want to avoid the tremendous amount of casualties bio/chem warfare would yield. Who knows? (actually as I write this I realize that's the answer)

Oh, and I do trust my ex pretty well on this matter as everything else she's told me has been accurate (much to my chagrin). At the very least, she'll be told lesser lies as there's no point in them misleading her. It's likely she'll get involved in some capacity before it's over.

you guys r dumb

we havent even initiated any large scale ground battles yet.

f**s

i hate you all for being stupid

the government is hoping to win the war without demolishing the country like last time, so that we can look like the good guys to the rest of the world, because in case you havent noticed, big parts of the world are looking for any excuse to call us the bad guy.

hell the french even went as far as to ransack a mcdonalds because it's an american company.

open your eyes to the real war, cause the one in iraq is going to be simple compared to the political one we're fighting right now.

Yeah, I'm gathering the 'big problems' right now are weather related. Hell, isn't the confirmed death toll for the good guys higher than the Iraqis? This could be very ugly.

It's a shame McDonalds is a franchise, if anything ransacking it just screwed over some poor frenchie.

It's kinda like how there were these Palenstineins (sp?) that were boycotting the US, they stopped drinking Coke (which is a franchise) and started to drink Hershey's chocolate milk (which is a sole company).

This will be over pretty easy. It's not gonna be ugly and we havent even seen an "attack" yet. The weather poses more of a threat.

So far one helicopter crash in Kuwait (so it was not enemy fire, all you conspiracy theorists). Of course, one crashed in NY last week, too. Also I heard of one casualty in battle. A marine was shot this morning as they took over a post.

Also, Akronn, what's your ex's rank? If she's anything lower than a major, she's probably not being told much more "truth" than anyone else.

She wishes she was a major! Maybe one day...

I jokingly asked her what our battle plan was and she said she didn't know. I believe her, there wouldn't by any reason for her to know that. But, over the past 6 months she's heard alot of shop talk and was trained/prepared to head over specifically for this, so she's got a different perspective from everyone else I know.

Oh well, she really won't talk about the war too long and refuses to watch it on television. With the way it's screwed everything up for her, I can hardly blame her.

Sounds like your Ex is like everyone else in the military... hears a rumor or 2 and thinks that it is the truth. If I were to believe everything that I have heard up here, I would have been in N Korea about 2 months ago.

And by what you said about "this screwing everything up for her"... sounds like "Stop Loss" has kept her in her position for longer than she intended. In turn that makes a person a little bitter and makes them want to run their mouth off. /shrug I honestly doubt that anything she said is anywhere near fact.
