I was over at my friends house the other day, and I became very interested in FFXI, and was considering on making a purchase. There was one problem that really seemed to stand out, it was the traveling. It seemed like it took forever, probably because I'm so used to PoK books. I was wondering if going here and there is a BIG pain. Also I know chocabos make traveling alot faster, how easy is it to get gold to rent the chocabos?

By the time you get to use chocobos, you're only like a few zones away from your hometown, which takes at the most like 20 minutes. If you grew up in Kunark, traveling should be right at home to you. Only thing that's kind of a b***h is the run to Jeuno to get your Chocobo License at level 20 (?) I believe.

Warp owns and so do those teleport spells I think, though I don't know what the teleports actually do ;\

Once you get chocobos, it's easy.
Getting the chocobo is pretty easy, the hardest part is actually getting to jeuno.
If you have 4k or so you can just buy the gaussbit grass (x4). It takes 6 hours to do the quest, but it's something you can do over any period of time. You simply offer food to the chocobo once per game day (1 hour). It doesn't have to be sequential hours either. I did it: 2 hours at night before bed while auction/trading. Logged in for 3rd in the morning. Did 4th when i got home from work. 5th after dinner, 6th at night when i logged in to play.
