|
|
|
10. Being told to "think outside the box" when you're in a freakin' box all day long.
9. Not being able to check e-mail attachments without turning around to see who's behind you.
8. Cubicle walls do not offer much protection from any kind of gun fire.
7. That nagging feeling that if you press the right button, you'll get a piece of cheese.
6. Lack of roof rafters for the noose.
5. The walls are too close together for the hammock to work right.
4. 23 power cords - 1 outlet.
3. Prison cells are not only bigger, they also have beds.
2. The carpet has been there since 1976 and shows more signs of life than your co-workers.
And the number 1 drawback to working in a cubicle ...
1. You can't walk out and slam the door when you quit.

I've never been in a cubicle but they seem horribly depressing to me.
Boxing people in when it would be so much better to just sit next to your colleagues in a big room.

Cubicles suck. I'm in a quad setup where there are 4 desks per cubicle. It really sucks because all day you hear people talking and it's hard to get things done. It also sucks because you have to be careful that nobody walking by is watching you browse the net.

Heh. I remember one job where they moved us to a new building, and put us in a big room (the "bullpen") with 10-12 desks all the way around the walls. One guy walked in the first day and freaked out. He started screaming that he wasn't going to work in a god damned sweat shop, ripped all the drawers out of his desk and threw them around the room, picked up his few personal possessions and stalked out, and we never saw him again. I guess he really missed his cube It actually wasn't that horrible once you got used to it.
At least the cube gives you enough privacy to do personal stuff like phone calls and web surfing, and it's a little less obvious when you come in late (or maybe I'm just kidding myself). I'd hate the Japanese style where they just line up rows of desks, with your manager sitting at the end of the row and everyone just working shoulder to shoulder. That would suck.

Yeah, I actually get a decent sized cube with some nice amenities...spent $50 at wal-mart and installed a mini fridge under the desk. Sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the smelly f***s that work here would suck ass.
