His son was Maeglin, and I believe he brought about the fall of Gondolin.

You are correct about Eol.. but it wasnt because he did anything treacherous. Dark Elves in Tolkien were not like Drow they were simply "dark" because they never saw the light of Valinor. He married someone.... shit I cannot remember who.. some high elf's daughter. At first he held her prisoner but after that she fell in love with him and she refused to leave him.

They called him dark elf mainly because he avoided the daylight, he also had black armor and a sword fashioned from some special ore
