I have a 1998 Eclipse GS-T, and the electrical system is all sorts of f****d up. When I hit the break light, other things dim (headlights, dash, cigarrete lighter, inside reading lights) and my head unit completely shuts off, and back on). Same thing happens when I turn on my blinkers. It was hella annoying because my head unit kept shutting off, but today the car died... so I jumped it, and then it died again. After it died both times, if I hit the break lights, the few lights on the dash that would still turn on, would completely go out.
I don't know much about car electrical crap, so I was hoping maybe someone on RP would know whats going on =\ Probably gonna have to get it jumped and go straight to a repair shop and leave it there.

Obvious fake. you see, according to spitulski/faerdal/et all your eclipse is a mitsubishi and therefore couldnt possibly have problems because it's japanese and WOWOWOW those cars are like perfect.
Your alternator is probably going. go get it checked.

thats a winner right there. Your electrical wires are all f****d up. Something is crossed wrong. You can get some free system checks from places. tho they often add more stuff to the list of bad news so they can make $$.

The Eclipses, Talons and Lasers are made just down the road here in Normal, Illinois.
That would be American labor, sir.

That sounds a lot worse than just an alternator problem. You might have a fried computer somewhere in your car. It's a possability. Your break light isn't such a strong current that it would cause other lights and things to shut off. That's just not really a possability.
A good way to test that would be this.
Jump your car (w/ another friends running car). LEAVE the cables on though, and try various tests. tap the break peddal or f**k around with other switches. Make sure your friend is revving his engine a fair amount so his alternator is able to produce power for your car.
That way even if your alternator is bad, his would be doing enough to make your vehicle work. Just warn him to shut his electronics off. IE - no air, no wipers, no head lights. doors closed, radio off. That sort of thing.

Sounds like a crossed/bare wire issue. Couple questions you need to ask yourself in order to pinpoint the problem.
Have you had any work done recently? If so, re trace all those wires and double check them
Usually what happens is a wire gets crossed or pinched and causes a short in the system and that in turn f***s up your electrical system.
As far as your car not holding a charge, get the alternator checked. Most auto parts stores will test them for free for you.
If you get lucky it's just a wire .... worse case scenario you have to replace the relay boc that runs all your electricals (sometimes located in the dash, other times near the firewall under the hood)

Do you really want to know??
Last I saw, about $500 in parts between the box and wires. Really depends on where you live and who does it for you .
You might also want to get the car hooked up to a machine and see exactly what is causing the problem before you replace anything. Auto diagnostics costs about $40 and will save you hours of guess work.

if you have a friend who knows about cars, ect ect. Knows what he/she is doing. it can be cheap. Otherwise, its labor fees if you take it to a shop. Crossed wires are easy to fix. You might be able to pin point the problem yourself. Buy a chilton book for your car/model. These books own, they have helped me and my father fix many cars.

Car repairmen can really nail you on electrical problems if it takes a long time to track down. Once they find it, it's usually easy to fix, but it can be hard to find and take a long time, and if things have shorted out, there could be multiple problems in different areas of the car. Not trying to scare you, but I took my old T-bird into the shop when some wiring burned up and the estimate I got was $1100. Yours probably isn't as bad as that (I had a 1" thick bundle of wires literally burn in two, and I spliced them all back together but the car never ran the same afterwards and did a lot of strange things). I had only paid $1400 for the car hehe, so I just donated it to charity rather than spending the money to fix it.

Most of the newer cars have 1 or 2 wiring harnesses with all your shit connected to them, so go spend 15 bucks and grab a chilton manual, then spend 10 more bucks and grab a voltmeter and check the specs at the end of the harness, you'll find out which one is shorting out It could be something as simple as a bad ground on your battery too, I've had that shit bite me in the ass before and it did all kinds of strange like you're saying is happening to you.

Kireol talking about cars is like Paden writing a doctoral thesis on theoretical nuclear physics.

As much of a blind, American car zealot he is, Kireol does know what he is talking about when it comes to the build of cars.
