Here are a list of 7 WOW tips to help you save a bit of time and frustration. They should help both new and experienced players.
WOW Tip #1 - Get cosmos UI from cosmosui.org. Its free and legal.
WOW Tips #2 - Autoloot everything. Shift + Right Click on a kill. Saves time
WOW Tip #3 - Get as many quests as possible, simultaneously. Do not do quests one at a time. When entering a new map region, go to the main town first, then speak to all the NPC's, get all the quest, and then proceed to explore. Remember that some quests can be a waste of time, requiring you spend an hour running to and from different people. Don't be afraid to abandon quests in favor of other ones. Don’t waste time on crappy quests.
WOW Tip #4 - Use groups to your advantage. Grouping will immensely speed up your power game, but do it only when necessary. About 25% of the quests are group quests, and you will waste time trying to solo them; unless you wait until you are a few levels higher and the quest becomes green (good tip for solo'ers). The rest of the quests, you can solo.
WOW Tip #5 - Leveling grinder; killing stuff a few levels below you (con green) is a great way to quickly rack up EXP and grind out a level. Yes, its boring, but it pays. You don't take much damage, you kill them fast, you have quick recovery (low down time).
WOW Tip #6 - Doing quests 3 or more levels higher than you, or an elite quest solo may only take excess time, unless you are in a group, don’t attempt them.
WOW Tip #7 - Avoid this big mistake; players are too quick to use DPS (damage per second) on their weapons as the primary factor. This is just not true. Abilities such as % to crit and damage bonuses are calculated based upon the damage of the weapon or its speed. DPS is just an average and is never used in computing an ability.
Example:
Weapon A: a slow, heavy weapon deals 110-130 damage, yet is only 80 DPS
Weapon B: a faster weapon deals 75-85 damage, and is 85 DPS.
most players will equip weapon B automatically. Well if you are a warrior and you like to use your mortal strike ability....this would be a terrible idea! Why? Because Mortal Strike on weapon A would deal 220-260 damage and on weapon B would deal 150-170 damage.

1.a. Cosmos is junk. Can do a lot better in the mods department. With so many to choose from and such a variety of purposes, you can design just about any UI you want with minimal effort.
2.a. Just set auto-loot to on in the interface options. No shift clicking necessary.
3.a. Agreed. And grab Carbonite Quest. Turn off Carbonite's option to replace the main map and leave its quest tracker and secondary mini-map up. The secondary mini-map will tell you exactly where to go for the item, mobs, drops, etc you need for 96% of your quests. Its that good.
4.a. With the recent changes to leveling 20 to 60, grouping is completely unnecessary unless you want to take a shot at that instance to get blue weapons for leveling. Or you just enjoy grouping.
5.a. With the recent changes to leveling 20 to 60, grinding is completely unnecessary at all times.
6.a With the recent changes to leveling 20 to 60, this is no longer true. Most elites have been nerfed or had their elite status removed and mobs are easier to kill. As long as you have decent weapons (or spell damage) for your level, you'll be find killing stuff 3 levels higher. Just keep in mind those resists if you're a caster, that hasn't changed.
7.a. Partially agree. The max damage along with stamina (and intellect, maybe spirit) are the most important factors on a weapon while leveling. More stamina means more health and less downtime. More intellect means more mana and less downtime. More spirit means faster regen and less downtime. Max damage is number one. But you gotta factor in the off-hand weapon if you're a dual wielder. And keep in mind your off-hand wep is going to do half damage.
8. Do not grind, quest all the way. Nothing but quests. Grinding is the slowest possible way to level. Ignore anybody or anything who tells you to grind your way to 70.
9. Wait to go to Outlands until at least lvl 59, preferably lvl 69. It makes a huge difference. When you first enter Hellfire, you're going to be killing lvl 58 and lvl 59 mobs, some of which are tough depending on your class. And as a fresh character, you're not going to have the previous uber lvl 60 gear. Being one level higher means you'll kill those mobs a lot faster and take less hits in the process. Being two levels higher makes it that much better and you'll have some leeway in the order you hit the Outlands zones up.
10. Do the Outlands in order: Hellfire, Zangar, Terrakor, Nagrand, Blade's Edge, Shadowmoon, Netherstorm. If you goto Outlands at 58, you'll be doing quests 1 - 2 levels higher than you most of the time. If you go at 60 you'll be doing quests at your level most of the time. Most of the quests involve killing things a level or two below the quest level.
11. Completely clear out every zone you level in, Azeroth or Outlands. You probably won't be able to do it in many zones, but just trying will result in milking every last point of XP you can from the leveling process and leveling quickly.
Source: Me. Just took a rogue from lvl 1 to lvl 70 in 5 days, 16 hours, 32 minutes played (game time). Took exactly 14 days of rl.

I have to say, before the leveling change, i followed many of these methods. They worked, back in the day.

There are a few addons that make optional paths to follow to do the quests in your questlog.

You don't need CosmosUI and when dps is higher it usually means it is a higher iLevel weapon and overall quality. At level 70, if a dps is higher than another weapon's dps, it generally has better stats than it too.
