Just made a few upgrades to my game machine....

Went from:
24" Dell widescreen
Athlon 64 3500+
SLI'd 6600gt x2
Raid 0
1gb ram

To:
37" Westinghouse LCD (1920 x 1080 rez)
Athlon 64 X2 4800+
SLI'd 7800gt (Overclocked) x2
Raid 0
4 gb ram

This new screen makes me grin every time I walk into my computer room Smile The nice thing about it is it has a similar resolution compared to the 24 inch dell (on the right), so you can push it quite a ways away and still see the desktop icons without a problem. Probably better for my eyes to have different focal distances between my two main machines.... An iPod is underneath it to give perspective.

Westinghouse makes a VERY nice true 1080p LCD (the one in the pic), and runs about $1800 at best buy (and I think 200 for the 4 year best buy warranty..one of the few situations where the warranty is worth it)

That's really nice Smile

I don't think I could sit that close to such a big screen, though..I'd have to sit a bit further back than just kicking back the chair some.

Enjoy!!

I haven't put any serious gaming hours into the screen yet... but I think you may be right. I used to get nauseated if I was too close to my 24 inch when playing a first person shooter (ie Half Life 2), and I expect I may get the same issue with this new screen.

I will probably end up mounting it on the wall there to get another 12 inches away from me. That way I can also lower it a few inches as well to keep my neck "neutral"... right now the center of the screen is very slightly above my eyes.

1920x1080, that's an odd resolution.

wow supports widescreen. I have a widescreen LCD and play it in 1440x900. very sweet.

I don't understand people's fascination with big screens, whether for computers or TV. Even at the movie theater, people always say crap like "there's just something about seeing it on the big screen," but I don't find that to be true. I think you get a much better experience from an improved sound system than from a bigger screen.

I kinda agree with that on the movie side, sound is a BIG factor to movie enjoyment but so is a big screen imo.

for games the screen is WAy more important.
Take EQ for example, theres only so many times you want to hear the grunts and smack of weapons hitting a mob before you turn the sound off heh

Well, that's true because EQ sounds are gay, but so are the graphics. I wouldn't want to see Orc #20394 at 2000 res anymore than at 1000 res. For games like CS or BF2 sound is extremely important, I used to pwn noobz by sneaking around and listening for footsteps.

Thats pretty cool back in december i did something similar, i went from my 24 inch dell widescreen to a 45 Sharp Aquos, makes me do the same thing when i walk in and see it. Call of Duty 2 was so awesome on the 45...

They are sold as LCD TVs but support 1920x1080 (1080p) so it looks pretty sweet as a monitor. I am unsure about the Westinghouse but generally will have HDMI/DVI/VGA/Component/Composite/RF connections, i use DVI to my sharp.
