The Stranger, as described in Gone in 60 Seconds:

"It's where you sit on your hand for about 15 minutes, right, until it goes numb. Then....you rub one out. I call it the Stranger".

A severed hand simply saves this dude the 15 agonizing minutes of sitting on your hand waiting to beat it off. Genius idea.

If it was a Somali taking it, it's because in order to avenge the death of one of their loved ones or whatever, they have to have a part of the person that killed them. That's why they paraded through the streets with the dead bodies.

Because of that whole 'leave no man behind' thing; if they weren't able to go back in and get his body, at least he could have the hand to give to the family...as insensative as that may sound.

Should be why it sucked so much. Firefight after firefight. Excuse me, meaningless firefight after meaningless firefight. The set-up was very weak (the first 30 minutes or so in the airport/hangar), and the movie overall just sucked.

I've never been able to get The Stranger to work for me. Maybe it's because my hand doesn't go numb, no matter how long I sit on it :(
