How's the gaming music in the game? Does it get annoying fast like in EQ, to where you turn it off the first day and never hear of it again, or is it something that you wouldn't mind listening to day after day?

I haven't turned it off yet. It's standard Blizzard goodness.

Lemme see if I can dig through the MPQ and get a sample.

Okay - as it stands, a lot of the ambiance for the newer zones is still using a proprietary form of midi (which actually sounds pretty good), but some of the bigger name zones have .mp3 soundtracks.

As I play the game, that's really the only concern that I have. Where is the god damn music? It seems that most of the zones I visit have *NONE*. Sure there's various back ground noises, but no real music to speak of. It is still beta after all, and the next "push" is coming soon.

Maybe there will be a lot of change then. We shall see.

EDIT: Ok, I take that back. I never knew I could change the options yet, as you can't do it via the main menu. Now my music is turned on! Let's see how I like it ^

Who cares about music in a mmorpg anyway? I turned off mine in eq after the first month or two and never turned it back on. My sound i did turn back on once or twice just because the gnome getting hit and dying sound was so funny.

Sound i could see keeping on, but music why? Would rather have winamp running in background w/ real music playing.

well I guess it's all about what your into. As you said, you turned the EQ music off after the first month. Understandable...it sucked, and was very repetitive. But for me atleast, if the gaming music is good, it can really add to the environment, and make the the playing experience more enjoyable. Sometimes AC/DC: Back in Black, or whatever your listening to, really doesn't fit in a peaceful forest, a noble kingdom...etc. etc. Hell, for some it does though.

I seriously hope the only time they put into something like this is to put a built-in Mp3 player (unless you can just alt-tab) like EQ finally did. You want background music? Play your fav songs /shrug. That is the way that makes the most sense to me. Everyone gets the music they like and when it gets old, switch it up.

Would even be cool if instead of trying to write music, they used that time to make it modular so you could set your battle musics and town musics yourself.

I hope no one's judging the musical selection by what's in beta Razz They're not about to throw in all the tracks they have for every place, cause that's just alot more crap to DL, or require a 2nd disk to fit the installer on, or patch etc.

So I'd imagine there's just enough music in there to test the music playback system here and there.

(from what I've seen the music is very responsive to enviroment, and adds to the feel of the game instead of jumping out at you. It fits basicly is what I'm saying, like alot of times you don't even notice it's there, it's just subconciously registering as part of the character of your enviroment, like certain parts of a good movie soundtrack. Like you can get a good idea of what's happening or about to by the music.
