Run Like Hell (Gilmour, Waters) 4:22
"Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd"
Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run,
Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run.
You better make your face up in
Your favorite disguise.
With your button down lips and your
Roller blind eyes.
With your empty smile
And your hungry heart.
Feel the bile rising from your guilty past.
With your nerves in tatters
When the cockleshell shatters
And the hammers batter
Down the door.
You'd better run.
Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run,
Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run.
You better run all day
And run all night.
Keep your dirty feelings
Deep inside.
And if you're taking your girlfriend
Out tonight
You'd better park the car
Well out of sight.
Cause if they catch you in the back seat
Trying to pick her locks,
They're gonna send you back to mother
In a cardboard box.
You better run.

Young Lust (Gilmour, Waters) 2:03
I am just a new boy,
Stranger in this town.
Where are all the good times?
Who's gonna show this stranger around?
Ooooh, I need a dirty woman.
Ooooh, I need a dirty girl.
Will some cold woman in this desert land
Make me feel like a real man?
Take this rock and roll refugee
Oooh, baby set me free.
Ooooh, I need a dirty woman.
Ooooh, I need a dirty girl.

bleh. Both of those songs are depressing in nature.
Just enforces the first post instead of contradicting.

"Pigs"
Big man, pig man, ha ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel, ha ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying "keep on digging"
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find?
When you're down in the pig mine
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
Bus stop rat bag, ha ha, charade you are
You f****d up old hag, ha ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hat pin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
Hey you Whitehouse, ha ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse, ha ha, charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street
You're nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
.....!.....!.....!.....!
You gotta stem the evil tide
And keep it all on the inside
Mary you're nearly a treat
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry.

hehe even in english, its confusing.
| Quote: | Aye an? a bit of mackeral settler rack and ruin
Ran it doon by the haim, ?ma place
Well I slapped me and I slapped it doon in the side
And I cried, cried, cried.
The fear a fallen down taken never back the raize and then craig
marion,
Get out wi? ye claymore out mi pocket a? ran doon, doon the
middin stain
Picking the fiery horde that was fallen around ma feet.
Never he cried, never shall it ye get me alive
Ye rotten hound of the burnie crew. well I snatched fer the
blade o my
Claymore cut and thrust and I fell doon before him round his
feet.
Aye! a roar he cried frae the bottom of his heart that I would
nay fall
But as dead, dead as ?a can be by his feet; de ya ken?
...and the wind cried back.
(in english) thank you.

Pink Floyd has a number of songs which aren't depressing, but most everyone in this thread failed at posting even one of them.
Run Like Hell, Young Lust, Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar, the entire Animals album (save pigs pt. 2) are among their darkest/most depressing songs. General-Lund, icebreaker, fattguyy: were you guys just joking around, or what? I guess I missed the humor, or none of you even bothered to glance at the lyrics you posted.
If you're actually interested in Pink Floyd songs/lyrics which are less depressing, take a look at the Syd Barrett albums.

Because Syd was always higher than a kite when he wrote songs.

LOL well first off, Sid didnt really contribute much, save their debut album, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. And that, well, cant be really clarified as depressing...just bizzare...This is typical of the lyrics off that album:
The Scarecrow
(Barrett) 2:10
The black and green scarecrow as everyone knows
Stood with a bird on his hat and straw everywhere.
He didn't care.
He stood in a field where barley grows.
His head did no thinking
His arms didn't move except when the wind cut up
Rough and mice ran around on the ground
He stood in a field where barley grows.
The black and green scarecrow is sadder than me
But now he's resigned to his fate
'Cause life's not unkind - he doesn't mind.
He stood in a field where barley grows.
Um, ok, whatever LOL....oh and then there was a popular song See Emily Play which got quite a bit of airtime-
Emily tries but misunderstands, ah oo!
She's often inclined to borrow
Somebody's dreams til tomorrow
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See Emily play
Soon after dark Emily cries, ah oo!
Gazing through trees in sorrow
Hardly a sound til tomorrow
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See Emily play
Put on a gown that touches the ground, ah oo!
Float on a river forever and ever, Emily!
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See Emily play
Uh, alrighty then! True it's not depressing per se, but what the f**k does it all mean? ROFL

I'll agree that all of those are depressing except for Welcome to the Machine. I don't, I just don't find the song at all depressing...
Then again, I'm not chronic depressent like most children of my age.
("Ohh god I love slitting my wrist! The pain and blood relieves the pain of life!" f*****g f****t ass emo kids... I hope they all die)

welcome to the machine is not depressing? Its about the commercialization of art by corporate excecs and how that helped push sid into madness.

Ya, I own all of their albums and I'm a big fan of theirs. I'm just not old enough (and too lazy to read) to know what some of the songs are about. :p

hehe thats actually not a bad thing. Their songs have many levels. I'm an instrumentalist myself, so I tend to block out lyrics. Its fun to realize years later what a song is about.

heh Welcome to the Machine. One of the first PF songs I had heard I think.
Main gist of the song:
"welcome to the group. Tell us about your past.. Never mind. Here is what you tell everyone your past is."
"tell us about what you dreamed about... Never mind. Here is what you are going to tell everyone you dreamed of"
