After putting off the last Dark Tower book while I read some of Kings related works I finally sat down and read it. I have read a decent amount of books in my short life but this series has been by far the best thing I have read so far. Maybe this is just because I let myself fall so helplessly into this world King created. I recommend anyone who is a fan of reading give the story a chance, read the first book and see if you find yourself as enthralled by the Tower as Roland is.

Yeah, book 7 was truely a fantastic ending to that saga. They did it perfectly.

I almost wish I were a "big name" director, so I could make Dark Tower the movie(s). It'd be #1 for years and years.

It would need 6-8 movies that are over 4 hours long and they would need to leave to shoot and not stop untill it was done.

I was a little disappointed with the last book actually.

For one, the last half of the book, seemed like it was all smooshed in to make it fit into one book. Even a lot that could have stretched into more detail and adventure, was cut, because he originally stated it was a 7 book saga.

Also, the crossovers. It was totally obvious he was forcing connections, just to get people to go buy his other previously non-related books. "hmm.. I need a name here.. Oh. Aunt Mary. Now I can slap a Dark Tower logo on my 'Aunt Mary's Cook Book' , and people will pick it up." It was nice reading books and seeing things hinted or brought into it, but to really force some connections in books that had nothing to do with his Dark Tower storyline was rather annoying. Purely for sales.
Example being in the first book. Roland remembers coming across a wizard being chased by two boys, and makes you remember the Eyes of the Dragon ending. Then compare it to the last book. Hearts in Atlantis was a bit of a flop book-wise. Even though it was made into a half-shot movie. So, one of the characters is named after that guy, and mentions a vacation he took to the city Hearts in Atlantis took place.

And Randall Flagg. It was nice to follow him through various books. Although he didn't start out as the same guy in the first Dark Tower book, I can't remember exactly where in the series he changed into Flagg. In the first book, the Man in Black was Walter, and the wizard Flagg that Roland came across (in memory) was someone else, and the boys were chasing him.
But that's not the point.
In all these books, Flagg was a huge menace. A force to be reckoned with. Ultimately set up as an ultimate evil in his last major story, The Stand. But, in the DT series, when everything was said and done, he was just a guy with delusions of grandeur, who kept running away. All boiling down to being some idiot that thought wearing a tin-foil hat will keep aliens out of his mind... and then dies rather quickly, and stupidly.

Lastly, his changing of the tower. Although it was interesting to see how it ended up, and hinting that Roland was missing something that would let him see the real tower, I wanted to hear an explanation in detail of the Actual Dark Tower that was cross-referenced in all these books in the past. And finally get an answer to what the great turtle was, and why he is gone from the top. So now, the best description of the tower is still the one detailed in Insomnia. Although the Talisman did have the first hint and semi-description.

I still enjoyed it all, and will continue to read his books.

oh ya, I did like the cover.
First thing I thought of when I saw it was "hey, that's the painting described at the end of Insomnia"
