How is it that a film could take such an original idea. And market it in a way that almost everyone saw it, and everyone agreed that it was thoroughly awful? People told each other it was awful, and many people saw it anyways, because they thought it was something "you just had to see for yourself".
Discuss.

I'm just wondering how a movie was able to create such a great hype for itself. The way it sold was truely amazing and it wasn't even a good movie.

Never did see Blair Witch.

I could tell it was awful be the type of people that recommended it.

Ya know, I saw it at the University of Washington during a pre-screening.
Basically, it was a screening to gauge how people liked it etc. It occured like 8 or 9 months before the movie actually hit theatres.

There wasn't any marketing around, no one had heard anything about it except that it was a documentary that did really well at the Sundance Film Festival.

To be entirely honest, the entire audience was on the edge of its seat, everyone thinking it was a real documentary, at least most of the way through it.

At the end, everyone was asking each other if it was real, etc. It was truly creepy watching it with no prior knowledge of it.

Once all the PR got out about it when it was really hitting theatres, everyone knew it was fake and it made it really dumb.

Its all about atmosphere when you watch it. A theatre full of people thinking its real made it on the edge of your seat scary.

I liked the script. It seemed realistic. Otherwise I was bored and squinting to try and make out what was on screen.

The blair witch sucked. That doesn't change the fact that you shouldn't post on any movie or music related threads.

I was taking a poop at the theater and I happened to stop in and see part of the first BWP. I giggled a bit and then realized that maybe I hadn't completed wiping.
