I'm in London now, listening to it on the radio.

Looks ok around here though, still busses going around, but all the mobile phone networks are down. Alot of worried people who can't get through to their families Sad

Lots of us here are watching the BBC website like a hawk for updates and waiting for Tobby Blair's statement at noon.

This is such a terrible event at a time when there should still be much jubilation in the country due to the Olympic win. The only silver lining is that it happened today instead of yesterday when London was even more busy due to the Olympic announcement.

You can see the plan of attack though from the reports, first the tube is hit and shut down, driving people onto the buses. Then the buses are hit when they're packed full.

Police are unwilling to confirm number of deaths / injuries of yet.

A doubledecker bus packed with people forced off the Underground when the network was shut down was ripped apart by a massive blast.

Eyewitnesses said there were many fatalities, Britain's Press Association reported.

Bystander Raj Mattoo, 35, was standing on a corner when the bus exploded nearby.

He told PA: "The explosion seemed to be at the back of the bus. The roof flew off and went up about 10 meters (11 yards). It then floated back down.

"I shouted at the passengers to get off the bus. They went into Tavistock Park nearby.

"There were obviously people badly injured. A parking attendant said he thought a piece of human flesh had landed on his arm."

One witness told CNN: "We were packed like sardines, waiting to die."

Hilary Preston, who was evacuated at Edgware Road station Thursday morning following an explosion, told CNN she heard an enormous bang on the train next to the one she was traveling on.

"The whole thing just shook. Our carriage filled with smoke and I thought, 'My God, this is it. We're all going to die.'"

She said the train driver then walked through the carriage and told everyone not to panic, and not to look into the next carriage, where the explosion had gone off.

"No one knew what was going on but we could see people who were burnt."

Preston said she did not know how long she was trapped Underground, but believed it was about an hour.

Sarah Reid, 23, a student doing work experience, was on the carriage next door to the one which was struck by an explosion near Liverpool Street station. She told Britain's Press Association that she was led out down the track after seeing a carriage ripped apart with the roof blown off.

"I think some people may have died," she told PA.

The blast had pulled some people's clothes off.

Reid added: "I was on the train and there was a fire outside the carriage window and then there was a sudden jolt which shook us forward. The explosion was behind me. Some people took charge. We went out of the back of the carriage."

She said the explosion happened at 8.50 a.m. but she was not able to get off the carriage until 9.30 a.m.

Reid said an announcement came on but cut off after saying: "Hello."

"There was really hard banging from the carriage next door to us," she said, describing events immediately after the blast.

"That was where it happened," she added.

She said there was a fire which she had seen initially outside the window of her carriage.

Describing being led away from the scene, she said: "A carriage was split in two, all jagged, and without a roof, just open.

"I saw bodies, I think."

Witness Belinda Seabrook said she saw an explosion rip though a bus as it approached Russell Square.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang. I turned round and half the doubledecker bus was in the air," she said.

Marcin Stefanski was in the carriage next to the one which exploded. He said he saw bodies piled in the blast-strewn wreckage.

He said: "I just experienced a huge explosion and the glass hitting me in my back. People started screaming around me, there was glass everywhere, we couldn't breathe, there was no way to get off the train."

Stefanski, a 24 year-old student who recently moved to the UK from Poland, was among many passengers covered in soot and coughed repeatedly as he relived his experience.

"I was in the front of the first carriage and there was a huge, massive hole in the carriage.

"As I went past the second carriage I could just see the bodies lying all over the floor."

Well....

This is on the BBC Website now...

"An Islamist website has posted a statement - purportedly from al-Qaeda - claiming it was behind the attacks."

While this attack should be a reminder to people of what happened to the US 4 years ago and renew their sense of resolve, I'm sure its going to turn into a bunch of hippies whining about how we should leave the poor peaceful muslims alone and withdraw from Iraq.

As much as i make fun of americans for their blank statements of "lets nuke the middle east" shit like this does start making one kind of indifferent to the moral remifications of severly f*****g the terroist up by taking their base of operations and finance away from them..

Withdrawing would be the WORST thing to do now. Show these f*****s no matter what you aint backing down.
If anything i commend the US for not letting themselves be scared out of Iraq..

I'm just glad my parents and sister are safe, they just came back yesterday from london and the vicinity of those stations. kings cross is one we frequent when in london..

I hope by US's way you mean active search and destroy missions of terrorist cells and tactical strikes to take them out.
Not kbarr's "lets nuke em all" and hence f**k up the world forever way Razz

If the first, then i'm sure your right Smile
Reconnaisance by fire approach in Iraq seems in order atm Razz

Kbarr is wrong on so many issues, that if I did think the same way on an issue, I'd be forced to recheck myself just to be sure.

My first thought this morning upon waking up and seeing it on FNC, was that the anarchists from the G8 summit were involved. (Then there was that small part of me that thought Chirac was getting back at London.) But now I believe it was AQ.

My heart and prayers go out to the UK people at this time.

Terrorism is bad, but sometimes you americans forget theres terrorism that has NOTHING to do with al-quada.
It's not all about big bad american VS the middle east.

All terrorism needs to be dealt with, not just the kind america has a problem with...

If the billions and billions and billions of billions of dollars were not wasted in Iraq and instead built in to UK's and US's infastructure, we wouldn't have had to worry about stuff like this. Yes there will be attacks from time to time, that is going to happen forever, but fighting an uphill battle on the wrong hill is doing nothing.

stupid stupid stupid.

You don't turn the other cheek in this kind of situation. These people are killing innocent civilians because they aren't islamic, that's all. No amount of infastructure will stop them from doing it, leaving them alone only makes them more powerful, allows them to become better prepared, better funded, and gives them more support from the islamic community, because we would be viewed as weak by them for doing nothing.

They need to be wiped off the face of the earth, and nothing short of it.
As it is now, they're afraid to do anything in the open, because we've been slaughtering them like sheep for what they've done. They hide and kill innocents, there is no honor in that, it is a crime against humanity, and they need to be punished for it in a manner that doesn't allow them to keep doing it, which would be death =p

This was posted on the Islamic website.

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.

Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.

We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.

We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.

God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly."

Nice contradicting statements fuckwad. You ackownledge that no matter how tight we make our borders, an attack can still happen.

You'd rather transform your own country into a police state in an effort to 'hole up' and not let any bad people or materials into your borders than eliminate the scum in their own country.

They need to start going full force tit for tat, and just turn all the sand in the entire middle east into one big piece of glass with a few 30 megaton nukes.

Just wipe every last one of the mother f*****s off the face of the earth.

Problem solved.
