So im reformatted my HDD due to not having done it in a long time. i loaded all my drivers and such and tried to play a DVD and my DVD-Rom wont read it. The icon under my computer is reading it as a CD-Rom. any way to fix this?

Get the latest chipset drivers, or roll back if you already do.
I downloaded the latest for my nForce2 a couple weeks ago and my DVD-Rom quit read anything. Every disk would show up as blank to it. I installed the older ATA controller and that fixed it.
