Actually it's been going on longer than that but this MSN customer stored all of his important documents in his Recycle Bin and during troubleshooting with an MSN agent they emptied the recycle bin. Dude is all p****d off. It's basically like saying you want to store your English final essay in the paper shredder.

My friend in Tier 3 of MSN's support has been dealing with him. He "cursed" her last time.

This was common practice at my old job. I went to the exchange server and 2 people had over 300 megs of mail despite having empty inboxes. Turns out they were using their trash can as a sort of "Archive" of their emails. When I told them to make a new folder for "important" stuff they looked at me funny, even though they already had a few other folders so they were obviously familiar with the concept. And in college my roommates stored their documents in the computer's trash can.

Until I did tech support I would refuse to believe these stories. I could not imagine someone willingly thinking, "Hm... where's a good place to store important documents? Ah. The trash can."

It's a good thing I'm not a cop. Seeing how useless, lazy, stupid and selfish most people are on computers is bad. Seeing them like that in everyday situations would really ruin my outlook on people for good. I'd rather be ignorant of just how bad it really is.
