There's callers that are great to deal with, be it those that are nice, those that are patient, those that follow directions, those with some kind of technical expertise, whatever. Those that aren't like the second category - people that really have no business calling tech support. This call is the poster child for the latter.
Woman calls up - spends about a half hour on hold, thanks to everyone being on lunch and only two people working. She's already made like 5 calls on this shit to everyone BUT the people she really should have called, so she's p****d off because everyone rightly told her to call someone else about this. Her issue?
She's middle-aged, frustrated and tired (this is how she started the call).
Her situation?
Her rich-as-f**k dad has a home network consisting of a DSL connection going to a Cisco router and then to a f*****g Linksys wireless network. She did a crappy reinstall of WinXP onto one of the machines and now it won't connect.
I figure a person who can reformat should be able to help me troubleshoot a network setup like this, right?
Nope. Not only does she refuse to make ANY changes to the computer (she reformatted so it's just like it was before, right?) but she blanks at the term IP Address, Networking Cable (she plugged in a f*****g phone line) and reboots for EVERYTHING. IE reports no connection available, so she automatically reboots before doing anything else.
So, 5 minutes into the call we have:
p****d off, middle-aged tired woman
not at all familiar with networking
on a computer that she apparently reformatted
refusing to make any changes
wants me to fix a single computer on a wireless cisco/linksys network
INSISTS we fix it, or
Call started about an hour ago. So far, she's complained about my "stupid calm" voice, her "retarded s****y machine" and that I'm nost listening to her when she tells me the rest of the computers work and that she has made no changes, SO this one should be working. So far, I've been able to get her to plug in the networking cable and reboot the machine a few thousand times. The other working machine has a seriously f****d up IP/subnet but it's working somehow, tried mimicking it's settings and no luck.
Customers like this that have a working f*****g DSL connection and a b******t network they expect us to troubleshoot and threaten service cancellation should NOT f*****g CALL TECHNICAL g*****n SUPPORT.

Upon doing some research, I found that the chick - same age and shit - is at this website: supergoth.com, not ubergoth.net. So no, I didn't work with Amanda, but some chick very similar.

Luckily where I work at, they either bypass their s****y network, or they call someone else.

I know how you feel. I usually get at least one person everyday who is like that. I love the occasional call where this person has like 10 s****y 4 port routers all linked together for their office and he wonders why it doesnt work very well. I want to tell them to stop being cheap-asses and go buy a real router like cisco or something that is intended for a large amount of users.
It's also fun when the people cant even speak/understand english whatsoever and they expect you to help them. This one lady kept pronouncing router as 'rooter', drove me insane. Then i ask her to hit the start button on widows and goto run. She keeps insisting that there is nothing that says 'run' when she hits the start button on windows xp, and I kept telling her that is has to be there. We somehow got uh, disconnected after that

spit, take the alienware approach to tech support.. if you can't fix the problem (this is the case 99% of the time), send the customer something bigger and better to replace the "defective" part.
