Win98SE will support it if you make a change to a windows file. I will try to look it up. Windows ME requires a chage as well, every other copy of windows up from there requires no changes.

over 512mb of ram is pointless on 98/ME cause to get it to work requires you to basicly limit the usable to 512mb there for rendering the additional 512mb useless.
but if you want to anyway....
Go to Start/Run type Msconfig hit enter click on Advanced tab then put a check in the Box saying Limit system memory to <> then set the system memory to 512mb.
shut down , add the extra stick and away you go.
or you can use this manual entry setting:
Go to C:/Windows/SYSTEM.INI
Set [vcache] to:
MaxFileCache=524288
Im pretty sure both do the same thing though.

Yes, you need to edit the windows file...add a line, it's not what gruumpy suggested though. It's basically used only for people that use lots of ram, so it wasnt included in the ini file to begin with (which is retarded).
Ill just let that other dude look it up for you since im lazy and all I wanted to do was waste time at work by typing some incoherent jibberish that will never contribute to anything that is worthy of anyone's time.
