Just got done listening to an ad proclaiming the evils of marijuana.
Some facts reported:
1 joint of weed contains 4 times the cancer-causing agents as a cigarette (I'm assuming they are referring to carcinogens. I guess cancer-causing agent sounds more sinister.)
They also said that theres lots of other junk in there too, all relating it to cigarettes. Carbon monoxide, etc. Maybe they should do an ad about the evils of inhaling car exhaust, that contains those elements too!
My take on this:
People who smoke cigarettes, smoke like 20 cigarettes a day. I've known a few people that smoke weed, and noone ever smoked 5 joints a day. Cigarettes kill because you smoke 20 of them for 365 days a year for 50 years. That is 365,000 cigarettes.
If you can smoke 365,000 joints in a lifetime, then....damn. Or even 1/5th of that. There is no way in hell I have smoked even 1,000 joints. Or even 100. Maybe like 50, and I've only smoked for about 2 years. Joints to me represent using a LOT of weed too, and I hardly ever smoke them alone, so again, their figures talking about how marijuana is going to kill me just fly in the face of the perfectly-legal, yet more deadly, cigarette habit that is 100% legal (I quit after a year. Cold turkey. Easy as hell, it's just a matter of never buying them, but I digress..)
Anyways. The issue as I see it is not that marijuana is "bad" for you, I'm sure that any reasonably intelligent human would be able to figure out that inhaling smoke is bad for you. The point is that weed is illegal because.. um... why? Alcohol has a similar effect upon people, and in most cases, the effects of alcohol are much more detrimental (bar brawls, drunken fights, rape, drunk driving, etc.) Being stoned does not connotate any of these qualities.
I'm not advocating the illegality of alcohol, btw.
With that said, I don't smoke every day, I'm not a burnout, and I'm not an idiot, but there is nothing better then relaxing at home after you have completed the days' chores with the trusty bong. *_*

Suprisingly, a lot of teens don't remember ( if they ever knew ) what a carcinogen is. Therefor, the people they are trying to affect with the commercials aren't any the wiser after viewing them, if they don't know what the word means.

People don't 'spark up' the car engine and take hits off the muffler inorder to get high. Yes, you can compare it in the manner of having CO2 in it, but not for gettintg high.

I think the major reasons that they don't illegalize marijuana is because alcohol and tobacco have been legal for so so so many years, that illegalizing them ( see prohibition ) p****s off a LOT of people. Responsable drinkers do not make up enough of a majority to make it 'ok' to have unrestricted drinking. Tobacco has been an economically dependent crop for the Americas since before colonization, and many farmers/companies (*cough* Philip Morris *cough*) depend on the shit as well as thousands if not hundreds of thousands of various workers.
The amazing amount of social anarchy and general disapproval would be insane. Weed is 'newer' to mass use then alcohol and tobacco, so its easier to restrict its lawful use. I think that if it were reasonably possible, the governments of various countries would in fact illegalize both tobacco and alchol.

Hemp was actually a cash crop dating from colonial times in what eventually became the United States. The medicinal effects of marijuana have been recognized since 1850. The first anti-marijuana legislation wasn't introduced until 1937.

The one I like is the one that says 1/3 of the reckless drivers that were tested for drugs tested positive for marajuana. Considering they don't test you for drugs unless they have some reason to believe you've been using them that doesn't seem too shocking to me.
I don't smoke pot, never have. But I think it should be legal.

I get a kick out of these commercials. I especially like the one where they are looking at a pregnancy test, and then say these 2 people are going to be the youngest grandparents on the block, then they pan over to a 15 year old girl and say something like "Pot impairs your judgement. It's more dangerous than we all thought". Basically they are trying to get you to think "Pot can kill you, and if it doesn't then it will get you pregnant!". The connections they make crack me up. Noone's ever gotten laid because of alcohol, ending in pregnancy. But this new killer, pot, will rot your mind, fry your lungs, and give you babies before completely ruining your life at the age of 12!!! Pot is a witch!!! Burn it!!!
Hmm, actually that's not a bad idea...

I really like the one where the kid finds the gun and blows the other kid's brains out. I know I do that everytime I smoke.
And, really, would that not be a commercial against keeping loaded weapons easily accessable to adolescents? Pot definitely impairs my thought patterns so much infact that I get urges to point ballistics at a friend's skull and pull the trigger til it goes click. Every time I pack it up, I seem to lose another friend 'cos I got an itchy trigger finger.
Pot - everyone's favorite scapegoat.

Pot is illegal because the Dupont cooperation couldn't make money off of it during the late 1800's. As you should all know, the Dupont family is one of the most infuluencial families in American politics, and what they want usually goes.
Hemp is not the same thing as Pot, they're two entirey different strains of cannibis. One contains THC, while Hemp does not. Hemp is still grown in America today, and is used in everything from ropes to shower curtains.
I believe that pot should be legal, because its your choice if you want to f**k your life up. However, I do not believe that we should have any government programs to help those that choose to take this path. Why should I have to pay extra money in taxes per year because some j*****s wants to get high? Cooperations should also enforce a strict no-drug policy for employees. I don't want some pot-head making products in my country, they already suck as it is.
The government can also tax the shit out of pot and make money off of it and put it towards education or something useful. That way society will benefit off the stupid in this country instead of them dragging us even further down the shit-hole.

shit i've smoked since i was 13 and i can't even say i've smoked 50 joints, usually like 1 or 2 bowls at most a day and i'm not taking the whole bowl to myself, there is no way you can add up to the amount of carcinogins as cigaretts by smoking weed unless your a billionare and smoke 24/7 365.
