People need to learn how to know where one issue ends and where another issue begins.
DX9 is not the evil behind short races.
The newer half of the graphics engine (in relation to "camera" placement and the newer collision code) is the root of he shorties issue.

It's called poor programming and SOE churns out tons of it regularly.

What follows is a joke made by the lead dev dude during saturday night's dinner/prize giveaway festivitys...
The bad news is, the DX9 patch went live.
The good news is, I just saved money on my car insurance by switching to gyco!
I think that means we're f****d.

ok cute joke .. but did they give a real answer? This is getting rediculous ... it's been what 3 weeks since the patch and NOTHING is fixed.. I work in a service industry and I tell ya this much .. we'd be closing our doors for good if our customers were treated the way SOE treats us...

It's not looking good, they are trying to fix this stuff on Test, patching just about every day, but frankly I haven't seen much improvement except for the being able to run over rocks now. You still stick on any flat wall like it was flypaper, and I have gotten stuck in walls in earth and VT where I had to be CoH'd or /corpsed out this weekend. Can't climb anything...getting the guild over the wall in Fire is like a 45 minute project, cornering/walling is a total nightmare. Crashing a lot and 1018s etc etc. I'm sure they will get it fixed eventually, but don't hold your breath cause it's gonna take a while.

Is anyone still running DX8? What does it look like?

If memory serves, DX9 is now required to run the game Princi.

heh, that was the only thing I heard them say about it. other then, 'yeah we need to get that fixed' with alot less enthusiasm then for talking about who they wanted to ban for having a name that violates the naming policy, which about half the names did that they picked as winners for the random prizes. The lead guy was assigning induvidual staff members to each name he had a problem with to see that it got taken care of.
Oh, other then that, people kept passing him notes, which he'd then read to himself, and possibly to us, during the random giveaway thing, which was suposedto last no more then 30min or so, of course with his always going off into a triad about names, and generaly spacing out, wasting time etc, it lasted atleast 2hours, which makes it understandable how it can take forever to get anything fixed, with him leading the team :p

Some things are a lot better. It did what they said it would do. Both my computers can function much better in high density situations now. I can turn on particle effects on raids, and aside from the big "just came around the corner and my video card has to draw 100 new models" lag spike, there is very little video lag even in crowded areas now. Major video lag improvment, especially on older cards, and the new cards can fully utilize their capabilities now. So in that way, it was a success...but unfortunately the whole collision thing turned it into the big cluster f00k we have now.

Part of us paying to beta test stuff they want to use and work on to put it in EQ2. Sure, maybe it helps some things, but they should of worked on it, on test a little longer. Raiding is a big headache with people falling through floors and then training the raid when someone heals the person, mobs getting stuck in walls and disappearing etc...

I get a lot less lag with DX9 now, and the mob warping is gone which is cool. The wall and rock bugs don't annoy me as much as they did, but yeah it needs fixed :/
