However, the University said Facebook is "often used as collaborative tool for students and sometimes lecturers to share course-related information" making it difficult to identify if the site was being used for academic or social reasons.

"The use of computers by students to access Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, etc, is not forbidden or restricted."

The Student Union said it planned to display polite notices on all PCs asking social networking to be kept to a minimum.

"Having said that, we do support the Student Union's forthcoming campaign to request or suggest that students using Facebook and other social network sites be aware of the needs of their fellow students and step aside when appropriate to give those with immediate academic needs a priority," the University said.

aren't all students using a laptop in classes now instead of pen and paper? I'd think whole campuses would have wifi. Seems like they'd be able to get a laptop with their student loans.. i would at least.

thats interesting... most of the people at my school use websites like facebook and youtube.

in fact, one of my teachers now uses youtube all the time to show class videos.

i know this is about facebook, but youtube was mentioned, so i thought id share.

Well in my honest opinion if you're using a public computer it should be for academic usage. A personal computer is a different story... Exclamation

My teacher used to use facebook to sen out extra credit assignments and answer our questions when we were out of class. I liked the process... but I can see the annoyance if you actually need to use a computer for school work and someone is surfing the web on it.
