I just quit smoking, dropped them cold turkey.
I haven't had a cigarette in 5 days, but along with quitting i have aquired these nasty headaches.
Anyone here that has quit, that may know how long before these headaches go away? :/

How much did you smoke a day? I was at a good clip of a pack a day until I decided to drop them since the wicked heartburn I got with each cigarette just wasn't worth it anymore. After I quit, the only real problem I had was with phlem... heh I had to spit every 20 seconds literally for about two weeks. After that, I never felt better... until a craving hit, anyway.

cut a paste from a friends post a while back on another board.

Want to quit smoking?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe this will help. A co-worker of mine had the newspaper clipping on the wall of her office, so I decided to share it.

Within 20 minutes: Blood pressure, body temperature and pulse rate will drop to normal.

Within 8 hours: Smoker’s breath disappears. The carbon monoxide level in blood drops, and the oxygen level rises to normal.

Within 24 hours: Chance of heart attack decreases.

Within 48 hours: Nerve endings start to regroup. Ability to taste and smell improves.

Within 3 days: Breathing is easier.

Within 2 to 3 months: Circulation improves. Walking becomes easier. Lung capacity increases up to 30 percent.

Within 1 to 9 months: Sinus congestion and shortness of breath decrease. Cilia that sweep debris from your lungs grow back. Energy increases.

Within 1 year: Excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a person who smokes.

Within 2 years: Heart attack risk drops to near normal.

Within 5 years: Lung cancer death rate for average former pack-a-day smoker decreases by almost half. Stroke risk is reduced. Risk of mouth, throat and esophageal cancer is half that of a smoker.

Within 10 years: Lung cancer death rate is similar to that of a person who does not smoke. The precancerous cells are replaced.

Within 15 years: Risk of coronary heart disease is the same as a person who has never smoked.
==============================================

dont know about how true to timelines those are ... but they all ring true eventually.

almost 11 months now since i quit smoking Very Happy

Like a pack a day. :/
I am pretty sure its the nicotine thats still in my body, once its out...maybe they headaches will clear up.
And as far as cravings, only time i really craved one since i laid them down was last night after drinking a few beers.

11 months, nice.
I think i can handle the quitting part, considering i haven't had one in 5 days.
I just wondered if anyone else that may have quit had real bad migranes after quitting and how long before they went away. I mean, i have horrible headaches that last all day. Sad

take an advil to curb it, one every 6 to 8 hours but for no more then three days if it still presists see your doctor.

you body is detoxing youre probly having crazings and the cells are trying to repair.

wait till ya get that shakes.. that was the most irritating part, i thought they would never go away! thankfully they do, it all gets better. Smile

Good advice, thanks alot tam.
The only problem tho, advil doesn't even fade the headaches. :/
I have been taking some Advil migrane shit, i think...2 will bring it down from migrane to small headache.

Or lack of nicotine. A lot of times with addictive stuff like nicotine, caffine, etc... when your body and bloodstream are deprived of it after being use to it for years you get headaches b/c of it. I have no medical evidence to back that up... just personal experience. Hope you can do it... I quit for about 3 months then picked it back up =/

I quit smoking almost 2 years, when I got really sick and found out I had a f****d up lung disease. Hard to remember if I had the headaches or not, I was in the hospital being pumped oxygen, however if indeed I did have headaches they probably gave me advil or what ever to kill it while I was there, after 2 weeks I didn't have it <shrug> so hopefully in 2 weeks it will be gone!

Gratz on quiting by the way heh

Here have one median

Then your lungs will look like this. this bad boy is loaded with cancer too tho, not just tar.

i've been ignoring the whole fact of how bad it is on my health up until recently.
was playing some b-ball after work and realized after about 20 minutes i could barely breathe. thats plenty enough reason for me to quit. just took me a while to realize and actually do it. :/
hoping i can stay quit also. Cool

Heard about women going into give birth, they would always get headaches and the doctors just thought it was part of the pregnancy processes. Till they realized it was because the women weren't getting their morning coffee.

I had quit for nine months. Started up again for no good reason again, but that was a couple of years back. Just can't seem to quit for good.

Yea, you can't say you 'quit' after 5 days. I used to have a friend that 'quit' about 3 times a year, and he could always do a week easy, 2nd week he hated life, and the third week he would start smoking again.
