What's the point of knowing a State's capital? What purpose does this serve?
I was reading somewhere that every U.S. citizen should be able to name every state on a blank map, and also name their capital. The former I can understand, but what exactly is the purpose of knowing that the capital of Florida is Tallahassee?

As a memory exercise? To up the performance of your brain by actually using it.
I think that was the main purpose.
