As I any other game, it will be important. When your ship is taking damage in the battle, then you will start to lose speed, maneuverability, your weapons will lose its power and strength. If you have played any other MMORPG, you will know that battle damage is very bad for your character. That way you will not gain extra experience points, and you character is not going to be competitive. I think it will be the same in Star Trek Online. As always, we can only wait for the official release and wait for servers to come online. Then we will all know how important battle damage really is.
