What are your thoughts on this? I remember restorting to spoilers in the early Sierra games only because I was stuck. Now I'm seeing people fish through forums for basic things like movement, interaction, quests, etc.
Is humanity becoming more lazy, or is increased communication just highlighting that laziness? No way for us to conclusively answer that, but...
How about you? If you were/are playing Oblivion - what does it take for you to look at a spoiler? Not much? A lot? Refuse to do it?
I don't see any point in playing a single player game and rushing to the end. But of course I don't see the point of doing that in an MMORPG either.

I don't like to, but i will look over what all i should have done after finishing a lvl/mission etc sometimes.
sometimes "bonus" areas and quests are really key to other parts of the game and i hate missing those
if the game is out for awhile, i will look over skill/weapon/combos in lvl up type games to make sure what i want isn't going to be totally gimped.

With a game like Oblivion where I can't really miss anything. Since you can still go everywhere once you beat the main story like in Morrowind, I would only really check a spoiler if I was completely stuck on a part and I knew the solution was something completely stupid that I would only stumble on after days of trial and error.
But for games where if you go left instead of right at a certain part you miss the magic +6 sword and can never ever get it again and it makes it so you get the bad ending where you die and your corpse gets raped at the end, I would be more inclined to read a spoiler since games like that f*****g suck anyway and I would never play it a second time just for a good ending.

speaking of
i just downloaded the Oblivion prima guide, 373 pages lolz
that happened to me in NWN
after finishing a quest you got ported to a hidden outdoor area, and you had to kill a certain tree, but if you left the area you could not return.
anyway
i thought about it, there are a couple of problems i will go right to the spoiler sites for
word games - like, you have 10 words and a right combo of 3 will open xx
or anything where you have to do a long chain in the right order
pull lever Y, run over press button B, then pull lever c, open door q
run back press button c etc etc

I try to avoid those games if I know that's what they're like ahead of time.

LOL
Jecht shot anyone?
I refer to spoilers when I get stuck. Alot of times I won't read text in a game and I always play with no sound on, so then I just won't know what to do. Just for saving time instead of running around to 30 different villages looking for the blue apple, I'll just look it up and continue on my merry way. I don't care if I get the best of the best pwn'd gear, if I can beat the game with a cypress stick, fine by me.
Basically when the reward/result for something is unknown and obviously requires a lot of effort, to such degree that I don't even want to attempt it unless I know it will be worth the effort.
Some other random things, knowledge stuff that might ruin other aspects of the game, understanding of some small mechanic which is not explained sufficiently, and things that result in saving a lot of time.
Example: In one oblivion quest you need to find 5 small white items in a large snow area. You can guess how f*****g fun that was. Spoil me away with their locations. I would of rather someone told me where they were than me walking around for 40 mins looking for some small piece of alsjhfhfjhfsj.
