There are other reasons then saving her..the fiance should have killed them. You wouldn't like to kill the people who just shot your fiance? Besides most people would pull their CCW as soon as someone started to mug them instead of waiting for the attacker to brandish a gun imo.

Except that there were five men in the group that robbed them. This isn't a movie. The fiance isn't going to just gun down the other 5 in vengeance. Odds are he would be dead as well.

If you were in his position and 5 guys attacked you and your fiance, pulled a gun and shot her in the chest would you expect them to just run off or shoot you too? Personally I wouldn't be too worried about not being shot right then.
