What's up with that? When it says a weapon takes spirit shot/soul shot 2/4 or something, what does that mean? 2 of one and 4 of the other? 2 of one or 4 of the other? And what's it do? Do you need it to do the weapons normal damage, or does it make it do extra damage? Does the weapon still work if you don't have it? Does it just use it out of your inventory? Can you use the weapon without it, but keep some in your inventory for when you need it later? Where do you get it? Does it make you hit harder, or more accurately? Does it affect casting spells?
I think that pretty much covers my lack of understanding

Soul shots are for weapon attacks and spirit shots are for magic attacks.
Soul shots double your damage output, and there are different grades of soul shots for different grades of weapons.
No grade
D
C
B
A
S
from lowest to highest. if your weapon says it takes 4 then it takes 4, but I don't think believe anything takes both soul and spirit shots to go off.
And yes it takes it out of your inventory. You can put it in the menu bar also for easy access.

Thanks. So, say I don't want to use soul/spirit shot when exping, because it's expensive, but I want to have some on hand in case I get in trouble or someone tries to PK me or whatever. Can I have it not being used out of my inventory until I decide to use it? Or does it just always use it if it's there?
I'm really liking orc shaman btw. I wish the orc area had more quests (I really wish there were a staff quest; elfs get sunset and sentinal staffs, orcs just get Sword of Butcher, but no staffs), but shaman is fun to play. Levels and makes adena pretty slow though. And lots of choices: robe/light armor/heavy armor are all viable choices, shield or 2-handed, staff/sword/bow, DOT/kite, DOT/sleep, lifetap/melee... And the thought of eventually getting clan-wide buffs is just awesome.

Think of it as an item. You can choose to use it or not.

Soulshots aren't that expensive xping or whatever, I mean stuff at 12 drops like 100-130a per kill and using a soulshot with my Gladius costs 2 of them which cost 8a per at the merchant or 5a from a nice crafter. Awesome for skills like Mortal Blow or Power Shot etc... and I mean, 5 arrows do about as much damage as a soulshot powershot arrow and they cost 2a each... same cost.

Oh, it's starting to make sense I guess. So soul shot or spirit shot is like a special attack that you do whenever you click it. I was under the impression that as you were wailing away with your mace or whatever in melee, every time you hit the mob it used up another 2 soul shot ammo, so if you had to hit 10 times to kill something, it would use 20 soul shot.
Eventually maybe I'll be able to afford a staff that actually uses it so I can try for myself

ya its nice for pvp or soloing, using in groups is pretty pointless. Alot of archers use them on every hit because they are overpowered...
