As of about a week ago, every time I try to close my internet explorer, this is what I get.
there's this error popup
Acrobat IEHelper: iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x03613a30" referenced memory at "0x03640ea4". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Then again when I goto shut my comp down, I get a similiar error, only the file in question is smc.exe (my firewall). I don't remember the exact wording or numbers used, 'cause it shuts the computer down reguardless. It's just a window that pops up on the closing screen.
This is with WinXP using SP1. I've tried using Trend Micro's House Call and it finds a virus that's uncleanable. So I went into my registry and deleted the things that were infected. That didn't solve it.
Ad Aware and Spybot couldn't find anything except this possible "DOS Exploit" thing, but that was cleared up when I deleted the things in the registry. So... that brings me back to square 1.
How do I fix this error?

IE is corrupted. Just re-install it.

Acrobat is the Adobe reader for pdf files. It tends to get installed when you install games or other products, so you can read the manuals that come on the cdroms. You may have a couple of conflicting installations, or an out of date one. The first thing I'd do is go to control panel, add/remove software, and remove anything having that sounds like adobe or acrobat readers, then go to adobe.com and download the current free one from their support page. Or if you just access a pdf file, windows will probably point you to a download page.

Ok, I uninstalled Acrobat and now it gives me a clever variation of the first error!
iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x03613a30" referenced memory at "0x03640ea4". The memory could not be "read".

doh, sorry, looks like you're just out of luck. I guess you do have to reinstall IE. I'm not sure what the easiest way to do that is. The thought of reinstalling the entire OS makes me gag.
