That was really f****d up.
He's been moody lately. We got this pen for dogs that goes outside, so they can run around and shit. We put him out there during the day so he can get some excercise. He's really lazy in the house. Just sits in one spot eating, pooping, drinking and p*****g. that's IT. outside at least he moves around and what have you, so that's good.
Anyway, 3 days ago we thought something got into his cage. He was jumping around and pulled out a large chunk of fur on his right leg. So we paniced and brought him inside. He's been inside ever since. He's given off this odd smell lately, it's not the normal rabbit smell. Anyway, he's been pulling out tufts of fur in and around that same area ever since.
Well today I'm sitting in my computer chair, his chage is directly behind the chair, and all the sudden he starts jumping around madly inside the cage. Smashing his head and legs into the walls and what not, then he starts to scream. It's this really bad scream, skeeved me out. Like short bursts. AH AH AH! something like that... Anyway, I spin around to see him screaming and jumping, when all the sudden he like sort of falls onto his side and starts kicking his rear legs into the air, while his front legs just kinda dig into the air also. he's screaming quietly now. Still making noise and what not, but not real screams.
So after like 30 seconds, the kicking slows down a lot. then it's only his rear legs, then he just stops... dead.
It really really wierded me out, I've never actually "SEEN" an animal die infront of me. Sure, I've seen internet video's and shit, but this was really strange. I have no idea what the hell happened to him, only thing I can think is like... somehow a bug got into him while he was outside or something. I might be completely wrong, but it makes sense to me at least.
WTF... that freaked me out. Just dug a hole outside and put him in it. It's really a shame, he was a good rabbit =(

I bet it was constipated. Rabbits are prone to that. I had a lop I decided to keep as opposed to feeding it to charlie my burm. The rabbit died like that and I cut it open to see what the deal was. A blockage of shit the size of my fist. He was still pooping a little so we never noticed.
Rabbits scream like little humans, its wild to hear.

Why not? Should I pay a vet 300 bucks to post it out and tell me it was death due to poo poo. Rabbits are FOOD ITEMS, you can buy one in the butcher all ready for cooking. I could have eaten it myself if i wanted, it was a well fed meaty animal.

The only reason it never ended up in my snakes gut was a reprieve from the wife. Read up, it died from constipation. A painful death, but rabbits aren't good communicators. They eat and eat and eat, then they stop hopping around, the humans start wondering and a few mins/hrs before they kick the bucket the screaming starts. I know my dog is in discomfort within an hr or so. Rabbits are either real tough and suck up the pain, or real stupid. I would lay odds it the stupid thing.

was the rabbit wild or tamed? i had 3 small wild rabbits at one time, their mom was smashed with a pine tree.
1 didn't eat and died, 1 ate too much and didn't move till he died, and the other was released back to the wild err escaped.

Read up, it was a lop rabbit. Perfect food item for large snakes.
| Quote: | Large Rabbit Breeds
Large rabbits weight approximately 4-5kg. You will need to be particularly careful that accomodation is big enough. Commercial hutches/runs can often have too low roofs, rabbits need to be able to stand on the back legs without banging their nose on the roof. Caring for Large/Giant Rabbit Breeds
New Zealand - : This breed usually comes in white, but can also be other colours. They weigh 4-5.5kg.
English Lop - These bunny's have very very long ears (over 20inches), which hang below the head and can drag on the floor. They weigh approximately 4.kg+
French Lop French Lops are very similar to English Lop's accept with much shorter ears. They weigh 4.5kg+ |

No need to choke it out. Just knock its head against a cement wall or a table leg, don't hit it to hard or it will bleed out its mouth/nose. Then wash it real good, then blow dry it:)
Then take out the trusty frozen rat in the freezer, a nice smelly adult. Let it thaw out a little and rub it all over the rabbit. That should do the trick.
Long hemostats keep snakes with bad aim from nailing you.

Feeding live is for ppl who want to see the kill, newbs. You should always feed prekilled food items. Live rodents can puncture a snakes gut, that can kill them.

Venomous snakes have always given me a good shiver, but constricters are a very, very close second when it comes to reptiles I completely respect; with a vice-like bite and pure muscle on their underside, it's a wonder that people, mainly the clueless ones, keep them as pets.
"Safety first" seems like a far cry from how aware you have to be in terms of these several-yard-long logs of muscle.
But I'm sure it happens: a dangling hand holding a stiff, dead mouse--which would you bite?

Charlie was 13 feet long, was about 60 lbs. Completely tame and had the run of my apartment, he would crawl into bed with me on cold nights. Plenty of funny stories go with that little fact.

Keeping venomous snakes should be left to professionals like zoos and museums.
