I remember the days when level 50's could net 3 grand from droppable gear + their toon and some plat. These days a level 65 with max AA pre GoD and all flags sells for like 600 MAX. Granted, tons of people have quit this game, but don't quite a few still play and feel like skipping the flag bs? It just struck me as odd so I thought I'd share and ask your opinions of why the market crashed. Was everyone just undercutting one another?

More so that it really isn't all that hard to get said flags/gear/levels anymore. The time invested is much smaller and much more flexible.

Yup.. olden days.. that 50th char getting $1K plus from that FBSS also had anywhere from 50-100+ days played to get to 50 pre-kunark.
Also, those were the days the Ykesha was uber, and no drops loot was few and far between. PoF days.

The game isn't what it used to be. Player retention is the worst in the history of the game (thx f****d up expansion) and let's just face it, the game is old.
And yeah, high supply and low demand.

Yeah, the rate of exp made everybody 65 with 150ish aa's nowadays. Guilds are shrinking, about 90% of high end guilds are recruiting. Most of the original base is gone and more leaving everyday.
Say if you started playing EQ today, and you fell through the wall, went under the zone, hit a rock and your halted, go down a ladder and get stuck. You'd say "I can't believe this game is even on the market".
Eventually the numbers get so large where it becomes ridiculous to play. 90% of the game is trivialized content and the other 10% is heavily contested.
Yeah, so pretty much what alu said
Nobody getting into EQ + everybody leaving = shit doesnt sell.

Yea.. Honestly, the truth was.. EQ was down hill from the release of shadows of luclin.. I remember it would take me a god damn near WEEK to get one level.. I bought SOL, went into dawn shroud peeks, three levels in one day! WTF is up! I loved it, but at the time, noone really realised, or cared that EQ would be declining more and more from that point. I was in GETCo at the time, and three people stated as soon as shadows of luclin came out, that EQ was begining it's decline.. I miss the days where you had to STRIVE to get your levels, and the uber guilds? You never seen one of their 500 members clearing out zones and interupting newbies EXP. It just sucks now, and it is so cluster f****d, the levels are all the same. 65 . It's to easy to obtain,

EQ would have been so much better if they made leveling stay the same way as it was during kunark and had content for everyone 40-65 instead of it all bunched up in the 60-65 area. SOE just got lazy and just spent their 1 hour a month of time on the super high end rather than the game as a whole. I agree though the game is starting to go down hill that's the first time I have said it too.

Hehe, I remember when I got a yak, people were offering hundreds for it... I was like "f**k you hahahaha"
I wish I was more into the gaming scene and had sold my warrior pre-kunark. He was 50 with a bunch of stuff. Didn't know about selling then though becasue it was my first mmorpg.
Man I wish I had that money right now, hah.

ya I know people who made thousands off shit pre kunark, it's too bad I didn't begin on TM till months after release Some people literally made a living off EQ in a similar manner as plat4pop and the like. They sold manastones, freeti boots, yaks, fbss and mad amounts of plat.

When i was in high school a friend of mine started to play eq hardcore and realized he could make money off of it w/ ebay.
From then on he only played to make money. In high school he got enough money to buy a truck full amount.
Original Aaronian if anyone remembers him.
I know in college he got a druid account for liek 200 bucks about sol release and he did nothing but farm otters in cs and do ports for pp and ebay it.
Also when eq first came out it was around the internet boom so a lot of ppl had a lot of extra money from stocks and such. That prob helped too.

f0 sho kinda miss the slow leveling of those days. It added a bigger sense of accomplishemnt, even with the AA"s...Now ou can get like 30 AA's a sitting or a few levels

I think it has mostly to due with the fact there are tons of built up accounts from all the people that eventually quit, so there are thousands of high levels available. Back in the day if you were buying a level 50 account, someone who had played everdyay till then was selling it.
And here are some funny numbers
When Borgh and I got the first CoF's on the server, I got a tell 20 mins later offer $1500 for it.
I sold a Ykesha + Sasha pre-kunark for $850 and bought a TV, PS2, 2 games, and accessories.
I sold a pair of cobalt boots for $500 2 week into Kunark ( I had 1 and killed the mob solo that people had wiped too haha!)
