100 deaths so far? Half of them were from FF? How many bombs dropped so far? A few thousands?
yeah 50 FF deaths really suck but look at the number of bombs etc..etc...its really not that bad.
Technology has its good sides and bad ones. bad ones when you see planes go down without a reason, or when a targeting mistake is done.
And so far the bombs used by the US prob save the life of a few thousands of American/British soldeirs.
At the price of like 50 yes.
50 of whom were prob like : WTF when they got killed by their own but look at the result, Iraq is already done, in 20 days, 100 deaths out of 300,000 50 of who were cause of some sad accidents and against an unkowns number of ennemies.
Many civilians died, that really suck and the only way to make that sacrifice worth it will be to make sure that never again in Iraq another dictator rise up.
Miracle if you ask me.

A lot of the deaths are due to human error, no matter how much technology you have that can't be stopped. I believe one or two planes may have been hit for not turning on the equipment or updating the signal that identifies them as friendly.
People die in the military due to accidents even when its not war time, shit happens, construction workers die on the job, people from every country die in car accidents, fall in their homes etc.... We just dont hear them all lumped together. Take a city of around 300,000 to 400,000 people and see how many people have accidents in a day and then group them (prob should be 1 million considering the people in the war are much more active then your normal person).
Looking some stuff in Canada up, in 1991 over 41,000 people died from smoking complications. Over 2,100 people died in 1999 in Canada as a result of over 81,000 car accidents....gotta get ready for work, so I don't have time to do more stuff. I know this stuff happens in the states with cars, people make a choice to smoke etc... My point is how small (although regretable) the number of these deaths is compared to average everyday life (although the amount maybe higher then normal, its not astrinomical).

Maybe you don't seem to understand how exceedingly well this war is going.
Civilian casualties are the lowest of any war. Friendly fire accidents are the lowest of any war. Allied casualties are the lowest of any war. We basically own Iraq in 2 weeks.
Operation: Iraqi Freedom will be studied by all major military schools around the world for the next 100 years, as the "new" way to kill your enemy.
We've completly changed the way wars are planned, and have created an entirely new doctrine in which to fight a war.
Friendly fire is tragic. In a perfect world it wouldn't happen, but we don't live in a perfect world. |
Actually I do think they are doing very well as far as taking over Iraq and the like, I wasn't one of the people thinking the war should be over in 10 hours. This isn't a US sucks because of this and that for me, it was a can opened by a question of why I feel the way I do about war - nothing to do with how well I think the US is or isn't doing, I just mentioned some of the reasons why I am apposed to it along with many people.
Hell I think the US has done some amazing things as far as trying to help the citizens over there, wounded and the people who haven't been and then some

Would you prefer we left it up to the UN to plead with Saddam for another 20 years before they decided to take action? You realize over 100,000 Iraqi citizens were being killed every year under his rule?
Yes, war is bad, but sometimes its a neccesity.
No one wanted to fight Hitler and the Japanese in WW2, but it had to be done for the sake of the world. Iraq is just another one of those situations.
