Ok i've never played WoW, and i've only read a little bit. Can you guyz tell me what would be the best class/race combo to be a nuker thats good in pvp. I'm thinking Undead Mage, but let me know if this is a mistake.

How cool is the feign death ability? My end goal is to be really good at PvP.

if you're going alliance, gnome definately. They not only look awesome, but they now have a racial ability (must be activated) to boost their intel for a specific amount of time. If you're going horde, I'd say undead for their racial abilities (underwater breathing, etc) plus they tend to look the coolest as well. Troll/orc newbie town sucks wang imo, and the other races have cooler quests in the first few levels.

I got a lvl 10 undead mage...pretty cool class. I seem to solo better than most others ive seen.

Mages can summon food/water (which are basically health/mana potions)...so theres usually not much downtime at all so far. Damage is real nice, its not hard to kill mobs at the same lvl or +1 lvl w/o them getting into melee range.

Gnome mage or undead mage (alliance vs horde races).

Undead cuz troll mage idea seems stupid. =D gnome cuz small = win in pvp. Hard to target is good, plus the intel thing is nice.

As far as a class decision. I hold out hope that blizzard will somewhat balance pvp. No one has done it before, so it's a big task, but they're the first ones who seem even interested in the idea. PvP was an afterthought for EQ, daoc just balanced pve and said whatever to RvR til way too late now they have core issues that they keep trying to stack bandaids on.. more fkd now than it was at release.

From the posts I've read blizzard is at least trying to keep a core paper-rock-scissors type setup.

Level 35 mage here, I have some downtime after about 5-6 kills. 3k mana with self-buff, 1.5k HP unbuffed.

Talent Spec- Put 31 points into Arcane, rest into Fire OR Ice (not both). 31 points in Arcane is a must for Clearcasting, Evocation, Improved Arcane Explosion (gg insta-cast PBAOE), and Pressnece of Mind.

In PvP I fair pretty well. I can beat anyone 1v1 (even Rogues). Shaman's can be a bit rough because they just run away like p*****s. Fights against a good mage usually last under 10 seconds (enough time to sheep, cast fireball, insta-cast DD, and POM Pyro).

Definatly a solid caster class. You'll always be wanted for raids and groups because of polymoprh, and Improved Arcane Explosion (awesome for clearing the trash in instances like Deadmines, Gnomeregan, Shadow Fang Keep, etc).

As for strategy. keep first aid up for bandages (yay for self-heals), stock up on health potions, mana potions, keep a mana agate summoned and set up your key-binds so that you can hit all your hotkeys with your left hand keeping your right hand on your mouse for targeting.

When you get into a PvP fight, sheep first, first aid yourself if need be, then start casting fireballl, follow up with your insta-cast DD, then Pressence of Mind another Fireball or Pyro if you have it. Game over for anyone caught in that. If for some reason they survive that, frost nova, blink away and finish them off.

In group PvP, stay in the back or try to hide in shrubs / behind tree's. If you see a large group of enemy, Blizzard their asses to slow them down and do some easy damage. Use your Improved Counterspell (Arcane Talent) to Silence Mages. Always Sheep preists / Shamans, and keep your level 1 Frostbolt handy for quick snares on p***y runners.

Gear wise, Stamina first, Intelligence second (unless you're playing on a PvE server, then just slit your wrists now you b***h). Find an enchanter (or take it up yourself) and enchant all your gear with + Stamina or +Health enchantments. Mana means absolutly d**k if you don't live long enough to use it. Besides, if you go up the Arcane Tree like I told you too, you'll have Evocation which will let you regen all your mana back in 8 seconds.

Hope that helps. Smile

mages sux post 50, i mean its very noticeable

at 60.. as melee get better and better gear , ur dps is capped where melee dps increases

mages CANT beat other casters
mages ice speced kite melee, u should beat warriors rogues 50% of the time at least

my undead mage (60) went from being the best pvp race class to being one of the worst.. atm i cant beat druids priests shamans, rogues own me pretty good and im soso vs warriors

why do mages sux? they lack dps, no hp no ac HUGE downtime with only 1 good spell, and the only reason mages get groups..... polymorph

btw spec a mage 21 arcane----> POM and 30 ice----->iceblock, this ensures u kill melee , but ur weak vs casters which u normally cant beat 1vs1 anyway...1vs1 u can beat melee this way , but ur dps is overall lower
21 arcane 31 fire--->critical mass etc = avg vs casters/melee.... overall superior dps........
31arcane 20 fire---->get arcane power = best burst dps, but overall the 21arcane 30 fire is more consistent dps

Looking at our end spells and the ammount of damage we can do w/ a spec'd fireball in PvP you'd think we'd be ok in damage... Currently at level 20 i put out about 2x the damage of any other class i group with.

If you guyz are saying put all your points into Arcane maybe thats why your not so hot in PvP, i mean most of thoes abilities are for mana convservation not raw damage output to a single target, fire would be best for that. I would defintly agree that for a PvE Mage arcane is the way to go being efficent and all but in PvP wouldnt fire be better?

The reason you go down the arcane tree first is because of Evocation, Pressence of Mind and Improved Arcane Explosion.

Evocation = 8 second mana regen which will regen your mana to full.

Pressence of Mind = Turns any non-channeled spell under 10 seconds into an insta-cast nuke.

Improved Arcane Explosion = Gives you an insta-cast spammable PBAOE, Awesome in PVP and *needed* in PVE. Good luck getting an instance group without this talent, because you won't.

At level 36 AOEing Gnomeregan runs, I can hit 500 DPS without breaking a sweat using Improved Arcane Explosion. In PVP, you run into a group of enemy with improved Mana shield on, Frost Nova and spam Arcane Explosion, gg newbs.

Well i think i'm going to take a more direct approch and just go for the big hitting fire nukes. Although it does sound fun to do what your doing, it sounds like the reason why your not number one in killing stuff or PvP is because you've designed a AoE character and not a single fight pvp character. I personaly plan on using blink like crazy w/ big fire nukes to slay people really simple approch.

Um, you can have the Arcane tree and all the best Fire talents with my build. An AOE mage would be an Ice Mage with Maxed Blizzard, not an arcane spec.

Pressence of Mind is an absolute must if you want a 1v1 mage, as it'll end fights in under 10 seconds for you. The only class I have problems with are druids, just because they can't be polymorphed while in form.

I'm not going to doubt your wisdom at all, i have probly 1/10th the playtime, that you do. However i think i'm gonna stick going all fire in beta just to try it out. I'm really loving the end fire talents and the 100% noninturpted fire nukes.

As for race, I think night elfs have the best utility ability since invs is out of the books for now.

I'm going undead because I'm an evil m**********r but if I wanted to play for function NE would win.
