After the commodore 64 version of Pirates, there were many successful and unsuccessful game copies so far, and so on and on. The latest “Pirated†game edition that really impressed me was Sid Meier’s Pirates, but again that was just a re-make of good old (the best ever)C64 version of the Pirates. The only lack of all those games was the size of the sea if that is important thing at all. In the first game, was somehow small I don’t know. How big sea is in the online version?

I assume that you won’t feel any dissatisfaction regarding the world size, if you decide to join the Beta community. While your ship becomes your avatar when you start sailing, every instance is then connected by the sea. And there are a lot of instances here, which tells us that the sea world is really, really huge.

I played in the beta and things haven't changed as far as sea size. Basically what they did is condense the entire Caribbean area so when you travel you can go from say, Cuba to new Orleans very fast, in a few short minutes. Then when you come near a city they instanced the city and leave the open sea area and enter the city area.
In my opinion this was one of the biggest flaws of this game. Rather then let travel be like that of other MMO's where you run, ride a horse ect...to get to areas, they opted for a cheasy Caribbean display of water with cartoonish looking ships that can travel those distances in minutes.
You can traverse the entire game map in under 30 minutes, less if you catch the currents and have a fast open sea ship.
