Someone at work yesterday asked me if I could get rid of some spyware on his computer. It was some program that took up the left side of the screen in IE called SideFind. So I uninstalled it from Add/Remove Software, and it f****d shit up. After uninstalling I couldn't get anything to show up. It was like all the shortcuts were broken. After restarting though it gets into windows and says explorer has performed an illegal op. Only option is to close, and then I'm just stuck with a blank desktop, and it doesn't do anything from there. CTRL+ALT+DEL shows no programs running. It's a windows 98 machine, so I copied explorer.exe from another machine and copied it on to this one. Didn't help, still gives me the same problem. Formatting and reinstalling windows is not an option, it's the companies computer and there's lots of important files on it.
If anyone has any experience with this program let me know.

SpyWare is getting worse and worse... it's a real pain.
You could normally just delete some cookies and it would solve the problem. Recently I went to a website to check some elemental flag checklists and ever since then I've had a nasty infestation of spyware on my machine. I've loaded all the Google tools, Norton and AdAware and nothing can stop these f*****g bugs. I had to start manually paring my registry which isn't something I like doing but it's seriously been a month long affair. I've never seen such prolific spyware like the shit they're churning out nowadays.
Technology is the rulest !

pop out the HD and run it as a secondary slave on another computer. then transfer all the files/back them up. after that you can reformat and put everything back on the comp.

oh there's something I hadn't thought about.. that's a good idea.. time consuming as all hell but if you use PartitionMagic or some other utility with the ability to move applications you should be fine.
