"If I thought we could get the conviction without that, we wouldn't allow it," Smith said. "If you want to make them, this has to be done."

Sounds like the cops are getting paid to have ****. They should arrest themselves for prostitution.
Honestly I can see why people don't want hookers out on the street, but if some chick wants to earn some extra cash by having a happy ending to their massages who cares?

Thats like saying a UC who buys some crack is a illegally buying drugs. Hes not, the person selling it broke the law.

Legal, but not officially recognized as a job here. So the (reported) income gets taxed, but they don't have access to social services (ie pensions) and any contract for **** is still considered immoral, so if someone doesn't pay up, he can't be sued. (same as gambling debts)
Can't say I've ever seen a h****r offer her services on the street, but I think it'd be legal too. Maybe they do it right outside brothels, those tend to be isolated to certain areas. (nothing like the Vegas Strip, with all those mexicans and their flyers  )
I know in Germany it's officially recognized as a job, not sure how it's handled in the rest of europe. I believe it's legal everywhere though.

Nope, not yet. Law was passed in a popular vote last year (58%) but won't take effect until January 2007.
Also it's a new legal structure (like a civil union) not a marriage. Gives most of the legal rights except for being able to pick the same last name and adopt kids. Also doesn't make it easier for either partner to receive Swiss citizenship, unlike in the case of a marriage.
Step in the right direction, in a few years I'm sure those limitations will be lifted as well. Really, there are more important things to worry about than what other people do in their bedrooms...
