Am thinking of making a SK...need some helpful hints as to what race...am wanting to be able to melee very well and still cast efficiently too...lemme know what you think

go with whatever looks best. i picked an ogre because i love the way they look (i ignore the stats). the constant peering down at your targets really sucked. remade as human. really love human.

Am thinking along the lines of troll/iksar/dark elf....LOVE iksar...just can't wear plat....love dark elf just poor melee stats.....LOVE troll just not enough inteligence. Learning more torwards troll

concern yourself with more Int then str etc etc..but I'd either lean towards Troll or Dark elf..even tho I made a Ogre =) cuz dey jus own da floojoo

blood ember sux except for legs and BP hell Darkforge be better than that useless crap. get ya some crusty armor for other slots it will help ya alot more or since you are a troll some sentient to stick with your color scheme and add some int for ya.
also a blackbear pelt cloak prolly fit ya better than hiero cheaper too, and id get at least 1 electrum black saphire earing . dont forget a 2 hander youll be usin that more than 1h later on can get weighty pole arms really cheap decent ratio, also need some haste with all that cash you saved from not buyin that shit ya can pick up a decent haste item im sure much better than belt of the great turtle =)

Iksar are the best SK. Don't worry about the "no plate" thing, it simply isn't that relevant to most of the game and certainly not if you plan on being high level.

Iksar have the regen which I cant go without to save money you can get away with an iksar regen bp if you dont have a bot/powerleveler. For the low levels youre gonna want to keep weapon skills up so I'd pick up a jade mace and a lamentation/defiance as the levels go by too fast.
Weighty polearm is decent, but has the recommended level junk, so youre better off spending 100 plat or so on a nathsar greatsword (30 delay I believe) or an argent defender (higher dmg).
Theres some nice quick piercers for sks around 4k, shard of darkness I think is one of them. DB rod or something for 2hb would be nice too. Dragonbone shard wouldnt make a huge diff till after 20/30 because of the dmg caps. Again, if youre powerleveling it pays to have a fast weapon for more chances to raise skill.
Edit: Oh yeah, and the no plate thing for iksars really only hurts if you want blood ember. Dragonhide armor and quest armors from thurg/ss/kael are all usable, though I'm sure you already knew that.

There's a 30/36 axe out of DN that is pretty cheap too, maybe half a K. No stats or anything, but no recommended level junk.

s***w the BE peices with the exception of maybe bp/legs. Silver Chitin Wristbands are nince to replace the BE 15ac 7str/dex 40hp/ HP's are your firend And def pick up even a cheap DN 2hander, good to keep some skills up

stats dont matter, class based regen doesnt matter for the most uber due to the new elemental armor
just go for looks
if you get a fungi and a decent weapon you wont ever die so other equip doesnt matter till 50+ anyways and that doesnt even matter if you ahve a shaman bot
just make him look pimp ~

if your going to buy gloves get Blood Runed ~6k. They are about the best SKs gloves pre-dragon loot.

I think you mean race based regen  and even with the new elemental armors (assuming his twink gets that high) he'll still have nearly double that of a non regen race. Which isnt much for high end encounters, but for a soloable class like sk every bit helps. Besides, this is a twink, not a valuable high end raid machine.
The only difference in any non regen race would be if he was an ogre for the no-stun-from-the-front boon. Anything else can be fixed with the right equip.
And yeah, black bear pelt cloak is great for the price!
