I'm still amazed that this worked.. it was a total accident but maybe it will help you.
I get anywhere between 200-400 or so spam emails a day. It's a problem I have largely ignored and its mostly because I am not always careful to opt out as I buy shitloads of stuff online. Well over the past year it has gotten horrendous. I finally decided to just delete my email box and use a different address. So in preparation for this I set up and auto-reply rule that emailed a message back to ANYONE writing to me saying "Hi Im closing this mailbox please update your address books with this address" yadda yadda yadda.
Well.. the reason I did this was because I've seen how mail agents work.. email is what I do for a living and I've dealt with lots of different types of scripting, everything from MIMEsweepers to .. well.. lotsa things.. I know that most auto mailers ignore incoming messages and some reject it, but very rarely does anyone actually read it. So for the 1% of my messages that were actually going to be read, and the half of that that would have been updated, it was an acceptable risk for me to be added to a new distribution, no biggie.
Well the mail reply agent started running for me and immediately I noticed one thing.. I was getting Re: Re: Re: Re: You could win.....!! And it dawned on me.. mail loops!!! The dreaded mail loop is one of the things mail agents also respond to... often times certain mail agents will automatically ban an email address until it can be manually reconciled if it is looping since mail loops crash servers...
Bascially by looping back all the mail I was getting from these spam domains I was able to shut the majority of them off. I checked my email today for the first time in 2 days. Normally this would be a 15 minute ordeal of downloading 750 offers to win prizes, take trips, meet available singles in my area... I just finished downloaded my email... 26 messages, 2 of them were legit the other 24 were spam..
Try it Ever try sending back spam mail in those prepaid envelopes and sending it back to make them pay for postage? Well this is the same idea! Get yourself banned.. the only thins you'll miss is the spam

My mother loves doing this especially, she even goes the extra mile and throws shredded newspaper in there
I'll have to give this email trick a try, my original account has been getting slammed for two years now and I used to love that address dearly!

in my case I really MEANT to delete the email address so make a reply agent that sends back a message that just says "I love you" or something non threatening so that your friends don't unwittingly delete you from their address books. I only ran my agent for 1.5 days and it worked so well for me.

So basically, just put up an auto respond to everything?
I had 300+ e-mails yesterday... this is out of control.

yes. You can even use the rules wizard in like Outlook if you want. I chose to do it on the server but it's just a matter of creating a mail loop by replying to all messages. If I recall, ceratin out of office agents like Lotus Notes only mail each person once a day to let them know you are out of the office. Not good if you want to create a mail loop

Posting a message that says "Hello" on any usenet group in existence automatically signs you up for 83 gay porn lists, 814 normal porn lists, 117 l*****n porn lists, 8 hentai lists, 16 spy camera lists, 462 dating service lists and another 26 lists that just send you blank mail with a gibberish title.

like I said I buy a ton of stuff online and I haven't been very careful in the past about opting out of receiving emails from these guys. You sign up for one, you get passed around like Sasa to all their "partners"

Doesnt yahoo have one of those settings for when you "go on vacation" or something and can have a reply message auto sent?
I use hotmail and was getting about 50 spam messages a day. I just made a new email account for school stuff, set my main mail to "block all" which sent it all to the junk mail (I could still pull out stuff I wanted) and then after a couple weeks I turned it back to normal and I get 10 or less every couple days.
