Could someone lay out some of the major differences and similarities of FF XI and EQ? What makes it better than EQ and such. Does it seem to make casual playing easier? Group mechanics good? etc etc etc. I'm thinking of getting this on Sunday, but so far every other MMORPG I've bought I've quit within a couple months, except EQ.

pros:
good graphics
good quest system
good housing/banking system
good trade skill system
funner combat system (its still not great but its better than the others)
runs really well and never ever ever crashes or lags

cons:
controls kinda suck til you either get used to um or get a controller (if you get a controller they own)

lots of japanese people
soloing isnt all that viable
quests dont give exp at all
higher learning curve (imo thats a kinda good thing tho)

overall i think its good, its good things outway the bad, its hard but thats good i hate the mmos that try to baby you and are so easy a monkey could play..

its very very remininscent of EQ in the kunark era.. cities are still the hubs of life and travel is still hard (but not to hard)

oh ya and chocobos = pwn

Damn, everytime i read a thread about FFXI i wanna buy it, but spending 50 bucks, then having a second monthly charge is just harsh. Is it really a finished game? I understand it's been out for quite a while in Japan, but like last game i bought was AO (yes i understand it had major issues unlike any other game) but it just really soured me to buying MMORPG's since you can't like play it single player and beat a campaign or something. =/

Yes. It's quite good. Been playing it for about 4 days, and haven't had any problems with it besides the japs.

problem with the japs is the language barrier sucks, imagine playin EQ when you cant speak to half the people who are playing because you cant understand them.

No it's the language barrier that's the problem.

The japanese I've delt with have MANNERS, something I almost NEVER saw in EQ. They'll buff you and/or heal you, and it's just a nice thing to have at early levels.

Almost the entire japanese civilization has manners, they even make fun of it in shows like "king of the hill" among others... they exchange business cards when saying hello... they're very, very, polite... it's koreans that go "Kekekekekekeke kill amellicans!! /( ^ . ^)$" =p... but then again, some of them are nice, and some are fek evil!

It is funny you used L's in place of r's ... in most asian languages they cannot pronounce the L sound because it isn't in their language.

so really it would be

WE gonna KIRR the AMERICANS

Looks like your the one with a problem. Sorry but this is a game based out of thier country dont like dont play. Sorry but like others said I had no problems and alot of them are nice and will buff the lower lvl chars and kinda watch out for you.

I do find it funny trying to say that the higher lvl ones are rude.. How would you know?

lol your truely a moron i was refering to the fact that language is going to be more of a problem because once we are high lvl we will be with the japs.. the japs could be the nicest people in the world we still cant understand them very well even with translation.

actually your the moron.. Ever hear of that most "japs" speak english. Its taught as a 2nd lang in most school.. I just find it funny you have NO idea how it going to be and your already naysaying the upper lvl.

1) Who even said we have to play with char that dont speak our lang.

2) Do you understand the difference in what they call time zones? So actually you will not see the major pop of them anywho.

3) OMG didnt they just open this up to the american that are basically lvling at the same time. So really will not be that big of a lvl difference for this wave of the game.

Your the one saying it will be a problem.. I asked for proof.. You have none ... So put that in your pipe and smoke it. Laughing

your a f*****g moron, i have been to japan they dont speak english nearly as well as you think, if they speak it at all its bad, unless you use a language all the time you lose your skill at it and forget it.. now the majority of japanese dont use english alot so even if at one time in school they were good they arent anymore.. how much of your HS foriegn language do you remember?? a few words? none? Even with a timezone difference we play with them alot.. especially when we get into stuff involving spawns.

If you want difinitive beyond a doubt proof i cant give it, if you want a realistic assumption of how this will turn out based on what I know about the game and the japanese then you have it... your super educated bilingual jap who can speak fluent english is rare.
