Repeatedly I've been hearing about real-life companies opening various stores and outlets in SL. Also, half-hearted protests against this practice have been mentioned. How do you SL folks really feel about it? (I'm not a player myself) Does it ruin the suspension of disbelief? Does it mess with your escapism projects? Is there any way out of the situation?

Welcome to the real world, baby. Or is it real … life, second, whatever. You know what I mean. It's completely unrealistic expecting big RW companies to pass on the opportunity for cheap marketing, virtual or otherwise. Some people are still whining, but not too loudly these days, as far as I can tell.
