What's the current status on the open server code thing? Last time I tuned in (I'm not really monitoring SL related events religiously) there was talk of rogue servers being planned, which raised issues of world-to-world transparency, and panicked voices cried out for protection of existing land values. Any news in that area?

Well, there have been recent attempts, such as the one as noted here: http://forums.opensecondlife.org/viewtopic.php?t=162
And the discussion on the merits and flaws of the proposed setup is still going strong, but it seems you haven't missed any groundbreaking changes. The server code is still not quite open source, and it remains to be seen what LL has planned.
