Hi guys, I'm a new member of the Second Life community, and I'm still trying to get my bearings… anyway, could someone explain to me what I need to do to watch those "machinima" videos that is shown on the official site's media page? No matter which browser I try, it only pops out a blank page. Is there some way to download them to HD before playing?

If you're referring to these videos - secondlife.com/community/media.php – they are in flash video format (better known as FLV). If your browser supports Flash, you should be able to play them. If it doesn't, it should direct you to a page where you can download the Flash plugin.
As for downloading them locally, check out keepvid.com.
