So, um, how far does all this go, actually? I mean, I've had no first person experience with Second Life, but from what I've read about it, you can do some pretty weird stuff to your avatars there. Are there, like, any limitations to what you can shape? Some examples, maybe?

Well, theoretically there are none (limits, not examples), although for practical purposes you are limited by technical issues, resources, and of course, your own creativity. As for examples, there used to be this guy called Woulfe (in real life), who managed to make an avatar in the form of a 40-ft. tall bipedal wolf. I shit you not.
